Finally was able to take the ST for an extended ride and I am very pleased indeed! It's a big/heavy bike but it handles superbly at low speeds and in the curvy stuff. I find the difference in S and T mode quite noticeable and useful depending on the roads ridden. I will have to fiddle with the windscreen height a bit, I think. I am 5'8" and have a 30 inseam and, with the seat in the lower position, find that I am very comfortable with reaching enough of the ground with my feet - about the same as with my previous bike, a Tiger 800.
All in all, I would say it is an excellent bike and I am looking forward to getting to know it even better this riding season!

I share the same feelings. I'm also 5' 8" with a 30" inseam and find that the OEM touring screen and winglets make a perfect combo for me. And I don't have to fiddle with the windshield that stays in the lowest position while being able to look over. Of course YMMV.

Chris,

It would be interesting to read a comparison/contrast of the new ST1200 vs your Tiger 800. I entertained the a Tiger 800 X/C while shopping around for a new bike, but decided upon the Tenere in the end…

I had the same initial impression of good handling for it's size/weight. I assume this your first Tenere?

Hi Jason,

I had the regular Tiger 800 and loved it. It did have some reliability problems and dealerships were far and between. I feel that the Tenere is better handling at slow speeds. I also find the Tenere tracks better in curves and I love the growl/feel of the engine. I also think that the build quality of the Tenere is superior.

I only test rode one, but your summary matched my first impressions! Good luck with the tenere!

Thanks! As I said - i liked the Tiger a lot and would highly recommend it. What turned me off most was the lack of dealer support.

Ride safe!
