Hi all.

I had a question I thought you could help me with. Since you guys have no bikes to tinker with I bet you have answers I haven't thought of yet. One of my manufacturers has created a few goods for the S10 that they have marked as "First Edition ONLY" When I asked them for a description their answer was a little "fuzzy" do you guys have any idea about this "First Edition"?

Enlighten me.

Kev

The First Edition was pretty much everywhere but the USA. It has the panniers, bashplate and the headlight protector .... oh yeah and a sticker with 'First Edition' on it.

I don't think there is any structural difference between the "First Edition" releases and what are coming here, just the bells and whistles as mentioned. No clue why they would tell you First Edition Only, strange.

Aside from what has already been mentioned the First Edition as opposed to the USA model is much better looking as it has:
Silver side Panels (USA black only)
Two Tone Seat - black and silver (USA black only)

Might be one or two other cosmetic differences.

I like the all black model versus the Euro one myself. I think the black next to the blue paint looks awesome. ;D

I suspect the reason a vendor might list a product as compatible/incompatible with a First Edition has to do with whether their product needs or interferes with the standard accessories sold by Yamaha on the First Edition bike. AFAIK, the FE bikes included panniers, headlight protector, bash plate, and a decal.

There are differences in the rear. There were some reports of broken mounts for (?) as I remember accessories to the back luggage rack(?), but it may've been to the sub-frame. As I recall, it's part of why they so badly weight restricted the luggage early on.

Yam re-designed whatever it was a year ago, so we shouldn't see any of the earlier parts in the US, or even the rest of the world's post-2010 models.

Nope not an issue ... it was a safety recall for the topcase mount. All got fixed under warranty.

I don't think there has been any change in Yamaha's position which is that they don't recommend side cases and top cases being used together because it makes the bikes more prone to overloading. AFAIK, nothing to do with FE.

BAM! You nailed it right on the head.

It is good I looked a little deeper as I found at least one part listed only for First Edition that would fit the rest of the new bikes.
