Dear all. So far I have used Yamalube as my final drive oil (I like to change it every 6k miles regardless of what the book says....but Yamalube costs A LOT!!! here in blighty. In my old Pan Euro I used to use a same grade oil that costs about 5 times less. I know that didnt hurt the Pan coz I used it for 3 years and about 70,000 miles in the Pan with no problems.
But I didnt really like or care about the Pan and I do like the XT.
Should I use the cheaper but apparently exactly the same oil? I will try to post a pic of the two oils. Thanks in advance for your help/ideas.

You'll be fine..my US service manual specs SAE 80 API GL-5 or SAE 80 API GL-4.

Lots of folks here use 75w-90 Mobil 1 Syn. For the 0.20L + extra if you choose to flush per change, it takes awhile to go through a bottle.

Don't skimp on saving a few bucks here if you can ::008::

::026:: ::026:: Rear gear dose is 200 ml. That's five changes per litre. That would put you at 36,000 miles before you need to buy another jug of gear oil. 3 litres = 108,000 miles. That's pretty easy to justify. ::008:: R

When you put it like that, I guess I could afford Torco SGO for my final drive! :)

So little goes in, I just do mine when changing the rear tyre, the Tyre costs £125, what's another £3 for "Expensive" oil, any major brand fully synthetic of the correct spec should be fine.

One of my buddies claims he has only done his once in 20,000kms. IMHO it should be done often as in every oil change. Its cheap insurance. Like you all said, 1 liter does 5 FD fluid changes. Any full Syn 75/90W is fine.

Thanks for all your comments. Yamalube is more like £10 per change in uk though. That little 500ml bottle cost me nearly £20. I reckon Ill be sticking to the cheaper stuff...which Im sure is fine and just change more often. I bet most non Yamaha dealers wouldnt use Yamalube??
