Film inside headlight

I've noticed what looks like a dull yellowish film inside the headlight lens. I hadn't noticed it until a couple of weeks ago when fitting some Cyclops LED headlamps. I don't think it's enough to attenuate the light output but it looks dingy when viewing the bike with the headlamps on. I've never run the bike without the rear covers in place and the amount of off-roading I've done in dusty conditions has been minimal. Has anyone tried to clean the inside of a head lamp before? Reluctant to put any water or other cleaning substances in there what with the H/L shutter mechanism and all...

How many times did you replace bulbs before Cyclops? There are two lines of thought that I've heard when you've touched your bulbs when installing them; one is that the contaminants will heat/etch the glass of the bulb and cause a catastrophic failure, POP! The other is that the oils will cook off and glaze the inside of your light fixture giving a reduced reflectivity and lessened light transmission. Once cooked onto the inner surfaces, no amount of sloshing cleaner around will clean it. R&R, remove and replace. I pull the whole assembly when I do a bulb, no touchy.

I did replace both bulbs before in I installed the cyclops. I used some Osram 65W H7 bulbs. I know better than to ever touch the capsule, so I'm quite sure that didn't happen.

It's a shame some contaminant got in there anyway. Yours is the first, don't you feel special? ::012::
Damn thing is not cheap.

Maybe some lint free cloth soaked in IPA may do the trick and use some chopsticks for reach. If it cannot be dissolved, perhaps the yellowing is from the UV emissions from the halogen bulbs itself.

Some of the cheaper aftermarket bulbs have a coating on the outside, especially if they are marketed as having a blue/yellow/etc tint. I avoid those like the plague.

I had a film inside of a previous bikes headlight shell. Took it off the bike and was able to wash it out but not sure how to do that with the Tenere.

Thanks for the tips so far. I wonder if this could be a Y.E.S. warranty item?
Don't go in with the Cyclops installed.

Replace the aftermarket bulbs with the stock bulbs before taking your Tenere to the dealership for evaluation.

Thanks, yeah of course I would put the OEM bulbs back in if I were to explore the warranty thing. I'm not sure if it's a big enough issue to bother with though. The Osram 65W bulbs I used had no tint to them and Osram is a reputable bulb manufacturer.

Maybe LED might be the next solution. No UV emmission. I use this for the car and the positioning of the LEDs are consistent with the Halogen, so that means, lesser stray lights and more useful lights.

Worry that the dust cover not being able to close? Use this instead. Select the 3" diameter as it fits just nice. Use a cable tie to close up the gaps with the heat sink. Ace Hardware sells 3" and 2.5" types.

I've already installed LEDs from cyclops.
