I was speaking with Karns Performance about adding a power commander and a dyno tune
to fix my surging around 2000 rpm and my deceleration popping. Surging only started when I
added the arrow header. He said power commander will fix surging and blocking off the line
that feeds fresh air to the exhaust ports should fix most of the popping.
Didn't know about this fresh air line that he says comes from the air box. Anybody else familiar with this ?

no, but I'd like to hear how it turns out for you.
I"m running a full arrow system, with flashed ecu. Zero surging, but quite a bit of popping on decel around 4500-3500 rpm

Hi Greg, are you also running a power commander?
Got ans Arrow system myself. Fitted rear only at moment and also have popping on decal, but growing to quite like it!!
Will be fitting headers shortly but keen to know if I will need a P/commander or not. Have also had ecu flashed prior to install of slip on and very pleased with result

Nope.
Just the ecu flash and a 2014 basket.
You will be very impressed on what the headers do.
the bike is surprisingly quicker, esp. at higher revs.

here's the write up: https://thetenerist.wordpress.com/2015/08/10/arrow-full-system-install/

I get a little popping now and then downshifting on my '14 with 5k on it. I just assumed it was the shit gas they sell.

I can occasionally hear some light popping under deceleration and my bike is completely stock. Sometimes the addition of an after market exhaust just makes it more noticeable. Having said that, I don't think I've ever owned a car or bike that didn't do this to some extent when decelerating.

I see you have a 12 too. I just went through all this, end of 4th page. http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=17952.msg283467#msg283467

Yamaha deduced my intake was clogged up with carbon caused by the ethanol in the fuel. They have some you-tube videos about Ring Free. Yamaha had to run an entire gallon through my bike to clean it out. I now run a Yamalube product called Engine Med RX that neutralizes the Ethanol and cleans the carbon out. My 12 now runs normal. Suggest you do the same.
