It happened to me getting off of the 5 onto the PCH near Dana Point. I came through the mountains on 74 and was less than 2 miles from my destination in San Clemente. It happened so fast I didn't have time to get scared but a lot of crap came out of my mouth while standing on the off ramp with the driver who claims to have fallen asleep...I think he was texting. It was 9:00 AM. I needed to be somewhere and didn't need the cops being involved. I made him pay be a Benjamin. Luckily my foot was on my main pegs at the time. He only hit the end of my highway peg. He prolly would have knocked me off of my Wing

I laughed at the response, "I fell asleep". How is that any better than texting!!! The world's gone mad!
Glad you are ok though.

Good to hear you are OK.

We had a Nissan try to run us down here in the UK the other week. Riding along with SWMBO on the back doing 60 & minding my own business when a Nissan Juke loomed into view in the mirrors, probably at least 20mph over the speed limit & just kept on coming, although there was plenty of room to overtake. There was only a second to decide - do I cog down & blast away or do I swerve into the gutter & let the car pass. Chose the latter as my old PC800 didn't have much get up & go. The Juke swept by, inches from my elbow, the driver looking down fiddling with Nav/phone/ICE - couldn't have looked forward out of the windscreen for at least 500 metres. These people are scary - they are driving a 2 ton weapon - then they get all contrite after they run down a bus queue or whatever. Yet another hazzard for us all to contend with, at least until we see attitudes change as we have with drink/driving in the UK - don't hold your breath!

Yes. Thank your lucky stars. Can't understand how a two-wheeler got out of it without being dumped.

Not an SUV but by a woman in a Porsche about 3 years ago. Totaled my ST1300 and left me with some minor to moderate injuries. If these cell phone distractions continue we should all invest in auto body collision repair shops and ambulance services, they've been a boon to those businesses.

This will never end until the phone companies are forced to disable cell phones while they are in motion. I have a friend who works for Verizon and she said it could be done tomorrow.

I would vote for it in a minute. I would give up cell phone use as a passenger to avoid the deaths and injuries this causes.

NOTHING ELSE WILL WORK

Bob - Really glad you are OK!

Corndog -

I was in slow-crawl traffic yesterday in Miami and a kid driving right next to me ran into the back of an SUV. The kid's mouth went open in startlement and his hand came up in a flinch. Holding his cellphone.

I'm in Govt and have pushed for this for years. Simply shut cell text service to anything moving faster than X mph, with an exceptions list for law enforcement, EMT, Fire, etc. You could even allow voice and map-related data, by targeting text service. The pushback I keep getting is that this would deny passengers their right to communicate and ability to use the devices they paid for.

The reality is tha there are numerous restrictions that we accept to live in society, such as not having open liquor in the car even as a passenger, and I see this to be no different due to the fatalities cell phones are generating. Some of these statistics are eye opening:

We have a lot of idiots driving with their phones in their hands here in Phoenix. I like harassing them with my newly installed dual goldwing horns. We have a distraction law here that just came into affect. I don't think it's working

I've come close on my cruisers but always installed a Stebel horn on them. One blast and they tend to swerve back into their lane. (Note to self: mount a Stebel on my ST)

Got sideswiped by a pickup on my ST1300 a few years ago in Tennessee. I had made a left onto a 4-lane street, after I was out there the pickup moved from the right lane into mine. We stayed upright (riding 2-up). Broke the right side mirror a little and the right saddlebag a lot. Cop couldn't tell who did what and we had no other witnesses so I ended up just fixing everything myself.

Gotta watch out every second! ::024::

Never saw him coming. Came from the rear and over a couple of lanes over. I have a set of dual horns from a Goldwing on mine...sounds like my F-150. Way better than the Roadrunner cartoon..meep meep.
