Last weekend (May 2-4, 2014) I rode 740 miles from Sandy, OR to Yosemite Park to participate in a Yamaha AMA Super Ternere Adventure Ride. Fully loaded with all my camping gear and riding clothes for 90 degree weather in CA and the 40 degree rain/snow during the return trip, my Tenere did a great job blasting down Eastern California. Friday night Lawrence from familyoffroadadventures.com, led a class on how to select and use off-road GPSs. I've used GPSs for years but I learned lots of things including how to use routes and tracks at the same time which allows me to use the cool pointer on my Garmin 78.
Saturday morning we took off for a 40+ mile two-track ride that rose up to an overlook of Yosemite Valley. It was a great ride, not too hard, not too tame. After the ride Gary (blue Tenere from NV) and I went for a swim in the campground pool before heading up to the BBQ and lots of raffle prizes. I won three sets of MX gloves and a cool jersey along with $40 in gift cards for http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/. I also got a $100 off coupon for http://www.fasstco.com/shop/flexx-handlebars-mx for the rider traveling the farthest to attend.
Sunday had another two-track ride and a paved route for those of us who where loaded up and heading home. We went through the Yosemite valley floor and up to the heights at Glacier Point.
The folks at http://www.familyoffroadadventures.com/ did a great job organizing the routes, the food and provided a sweeper crew to make sure we didn't get lost and even a chase truck in case anyone needed repairs. The cost was in the $100 range which makes this a bargain event and one that I plan on attending again.
