I am not too far away, just West of Oxford if you want to have a look at the Tony Archer seats on my bike, could swap 'em over and take it for a spin, may help give you an idea if you love or hate it, but the problem with whichever way you go is you cannot be sure until you do some serious miles.

Groundhog - I commute along the M27 to Pompey every day, so get quite close to you. Let me know when you're free and we can meet up to put the world (and S10's) to right.

Rasher - Thanks for the offer. I'm up and down the A34 on my way to Milton Keynes with monotonous regularity, so pass again I get quite close to you (depending on how far west of Oxford you are). I would appreciate the chance to sample Tony's work. Let me know when suits and we can meet up.

Thanks chaps,

I would have words with Tony Archer as a first effort in improving the seat. Only heard good things about his work.
Groundhog - what bars did you go with? I also get shoulder pains that need sorting.

I am also up for a local meet, being somewhat nearby also. :)

Andy I bought Pro Taper ATV Low bars from Dirt Bike Express. They are roughly the same height as the stock bars but with less than half the sweep back ! And all the switchgear etc fits on fine. I had serious shoulder/neck discomfort with the stock bars, which is still giving me a little bit of jip two weeks after I last rode with them !! I did 300 miles with the new bars at the weekend and they are much better. I will be doing a 2000 mile trip over a week - next week, so I will know for sure how they perform after that !

Sounds like a few of us are up for a meet sometime soon ::008::

I'd recommend the MRA X-creen Screen and adjustable spoiler together with the winglets. The screen is wider and taller with the added advantage of the adjustable spoiler. I don't get any buffeting at all and minimal noise.

I can't comment on seats because I find it the most comfortable bike seat I've ever had. I did John O'Groats to Lands end (nearly 900 miles) in 16 hours, with no numb bum at all :D
Also try some risers on the bars I put 1" ones and made a world of difference in the seating position.

Handlebars (ProTaper Raptors), Seat (seat concepts) and Screen (CalSci large)

by and far, the screen was the biggest improvement. It transforms the riding experience. No shield up past 50, and then it's only fear of bugs/rocks. I can listen to music at a reasonable level, and no earplugs needed. My neck doesn't hurt from the buffeting, and my torso isn't thrown around. Can't beat it for under $200!

Technically yes, and on the clutch side too but I just filed off the plastic lugs !! It all tightened up fine and doesn't move anywhere, and you are not restircted as to how much you can move everything round if you move the bars back or forward. That's in answer to do I need to drill for the throttle stud, I forgot to quote you !

Hey groundhog, did you get the tap and thread kind or the expanding bung bar ends?

I got the expanding bung bar ends Dogdaze and they worked fine. I will see how they go and if they should give any problems I might change for the tap and thread.

I've ridden naked sport bikes for years, so the seat on the Super Tenere feels like a comfy couch. Sorry for your pain. Concerning the windscreen, I added the Madstad bracket for adjustability, and the MRA X-Creen (I know, weird spelling). With this screen I have quiet air flow, and I can adjust it depending how I am riding. I keep it low for summer riding in California. And when I take my wife for a ride I can raise it easily so she has a quiet air pocket to ride in behind me. It works great for me -- and I am 5'11", 185 lbs. Hope that helps!

Just got back from a 2300 mile trip and happy to report that the change of handlebars worked great, usual long distance fatigue but non of the bad neck pain I had on the stock bars. I think I will add 1 inch risers to make the riding position just that little bit more comfy ! Regarding the seat I have done the bump stop mod which helped but I definitely will get the seat modified to a better shape.

Cakeboy: I have tried adjusting the suspension; but it hasn't improved the seat comfort. I have two definite pressure points that cause my problems. I'm toying with the Airhawks, but at £180 for the rider and £150 for the passenger I need to be sure they're the answer. We shall see.

Rasher: Thanks for letting me try your Tony Archer modified seat, and thanks for the route to Bicester, they were nice roads and I enjoyed them. I think I need something a little more than the Tony Archer mod, so shall do some more pondering/research.

I have now done 5,000 miles on the OEM seat and it has improved (slightly), I can't see it getting any better to be honest. I will keep you posted on progress. I'm confident I will find a solution and the S10 is a keeper.

Thanks for all the input.

I'm 5'9" 185 lbs and find that the OEM Yamaha winglets helped with the stock screen. I would go with the OEM Yamaha touring screen to give you some more height and width.

As for the seat, you're right most after market seat mod suppliers are in the USA but if you're concerned about cost, try Seth Laam Seat mods. I heard good things from those who have moded seats by him and not expensive, about $300 USD
