This is the cleanest Tenere that will ever appear at my house. This is the clean pinnacle for this bike, also the most naked it will ever be. In fact, after just four hours it can now carry luggage, has crash bars, bar risers, new windscreen and adjuster. Tomorrow it will get more re-purposed stuff.

It was a but sad to see the last one get left behind at the place where it first saw the light of day after leaving Japan. Romney introduced that bike to me, and it has also taken it away from me when it was time to move on.

Looking forward to the chapters this new one will write. First big for the new one... Alaska. That's a pretty good welcome to the fleet ride.

Looks great. I'm getting my 17 ES next week as well, but mine will stay just like your picture without mods.

Yeah, I'm really impressed with that new blue. It's gets a lot of comments already. Really impressive under the sunlight.

You will likely be even more stock than this picture. It's has 3 mods on it already. I had Jaxon's line extensions put on by Romney, plus the side wind deflectors. It was also 19 degrees F when I left home this morning for 90 minute ride to Romney. So I had to install the electric gear wire harness last night on the '12, then move it over to the '17 when I got there.

Yes, I'm getting the 2017, no kidding. I was asleep at the wheel, not paying attention, 2 miles from home, riding along at 50mph, 3 lanes of traffic, all of a sudden I look up and 2 lanes are going 50 and one is going zero, and the zero is like 20ft in front of me. I jam on the brakes and know I have zero hope and rear end a Suburu at 35 or 40mph. So much for my 2012 Super Tenere. I'm sorry to all I've made fun of/ whatever over the years. Fact is I'm lucky to be alive and get a new bike. All I can think of is we all fear the morons that don't pay attention and getting rear ended. I'm the moron, and lucky.

Ok, I admit that I'm not that funny. Even worse, sometimes I'm the only one who gets it.

But.........let me try again

On a serious note, yes I knew about your misfortune from the other thread. And if I didn't tell you over there, I'm VERY happy that you escaped calamity!
I'm someone well acquainted with far more heartbreaking consequences.

Wholey Shit Ron, I, haven't seen the other post. I'm glad to hear you're able and willing to kick yourself in the ass for wool gathering on a bike. You hear about the stats where the closer a person gets to home the higher the chances for an accident, but Jeez Louise... Bet you never do that again. Looking forward to reading your thoughts on the '17.
Oh yeah, bare bones or ES? ::26::

Lower than you think. We moved last year and hardly rode at all. Final mileage 38,525 miles. It's about 700 miles shy of my 2012 that the insurance company acquired back in June, 2015.

::026:: Glad all you lost was your bike. On the plus side, my insurance company bought me my 2015 Tenere. It's very nice to not pay (much) for your bike upgrade.

Very pleased you are planning to come back. This year has a lot of returning people who haven't been around for a year or two. Going to be a good year to be at Romeny.

Home about 26 hours and mostly setup.

I do want to lower it for her, but that is presenting more of a challenge than I anticipated. The exhaust is significantly different from the 2012. Cannot pull the bolt out for the dog bone without hitting the exhaust. Not having any luck finding where someone has described what they did to accomplish the task. Could not reach Jaxon by phone yesterday. At the moment I'm thinking my best option is to buy a new bolt, cut the head off the existing bolt the reinstall the new on in the opposite direction. That seems less daunting that removing the exhaust from the bike.

Otherwise most stuff has needed only minor modification to move from the '12 to the '17 ES.

I agree. It's a really nice blue. I think it makes the bike look more grown up...more sophisticated.

Looks great, and thanks for all the nice thoughts on my accident to all. I really wanted the 2017 ES, but wrecking the old 2012 was a rather stupid way to accomplish it. That blue does really look nice.

Just two questions, what make are the crash bars and the highway pegs?

Thanks

Yes on what CW said about the Givi crash bars. They are lighter duty, but they have been used a fair amount in mostly 0 MPH drops and never any damage to bike or bars. Cannot say the same about the original SW Motech crash bars. Those were a one time use only. Not impressed.

DM is not a TBDBITW rider. The bike is just too big for her. She goes off pavement sometimes, but I'm very particular about where I'll put her. The light duty bars and skidplate work just fine for her.

Don't know about the foot pegs. Those go way back to her V-Strom days. Can't remember where we got them. I just remember we spent very little on them.

Trike - I'd bet no on DM riding to Romney. In the last 10 years she hasn't ridden 1/2 mile without me. Just not her thing to ride alone. I'll be in Southern WV the night before I ride to Romney so I don't see the new bike making an appearance.
