Is it like this for all Tenere engines. From about 2500 to 3500 rpm's it have what sounds like piston rattle ? 2-3rd gear. Once I open it up it goes away. Noisey engine ?

Are you just sitting there free revving the motor, or are you hearing the sound at freeway speed? Free revving; Stop it! Freeway; get it looked into.

Tombraider2 - I'm new to this bike, too. It's a noisy engine. I read a lot of threads in here about it. The main (or only) thing they say is to make sure the cam chain tensioner is working properly and to replace it with a '14 when you get a chance.
Edit- went back and saw you have a '14...sorry. I shut up now.

I go thru this every time I get a different bike. I don't know what "normal" is, so I second-guess every little sound.

Having a gen 1 DL1000 sort of got me past it - very noisy. Going a gen 2 DL650, tho - it seemed like there was an electric motor in that thing, not a gas engine. So smooth, quiet, and well-fueled that it re-dialed my expectations for what a healthy engine sounds like.

Now I'm obsessing over a tap I think I'm hearing in my '14ST. I worry that it's either valves or a CCT problem. The bike has a few other weird symptoms: it takes a few seconds to develop idle revs from a cold start, RPM will dive to near zero if I blip the throttle at a standstill, and I have to give it what feels like a "lot" of throttle to pull away from a stop without stalling. It surges just a little bit under certain throttle settings. I don't think I would notice any one of these things alone, but paying close attention to running/tune makes you notice every little thing. Maybe I'm worried about nothing. ...or maybe I have a tight set of valves, hinky CCT? Loose connection between the airbox and TB's? Unbalanced TBs? Exhaust leak? ...obsessing about it removes some enjoyment from riding, but I plan to own this bike for many miles and don't want to do expensive damage out of early ignorance, either.

About 2k miles on the bike, it's had new oil and FD oil at 600mi, and again at 1800 mi.

Should I be worried?

Ear plugs will smooth everything out. ;)
My Kawasaki ZRX 1200 and Triumph Tiger 1050 rattled too, the Jap bikes sound like a tin can full of ball bearings rolling down a hill.
If you have concerns take it in and have them check it out.

I use ear plugs, maybe this is why I can hear it ? 2 guys at work that have 13's say there's don't make noise's. One doesn't use and the other has ear buds in. I think I'm obsessed with listening now. I rolled 1400 this morning, will do another oil change soon. May take them other bikes out and see if there the same. But as this engine breakes in she is waking up and sounds differant.

Steve, it never hurts to sync the throttle bodies. Mine were done at the 600 mile service, then I did them at about 30k.

Mine also sounds like you describe with no ill-effects so far.

I recently helped a buddy install an open clutch cover, pressure plate, etc. on his Ducati 1098. Talk about a worrying noise...

They have a check list that they theoretically go through, along with the two main fluid changes. fredz might be able to post that list. Along with that list, they tweaked the TB's. Cost a bundle. Peace of mind. She did run better after each sync though.
