Engine sound/noise

Nothing wrong with that but you tend do use the lower end torque more rather than rev the nuts of it like an inline four. I have an XJR, had a Thunderace and FJR before which is smooth, quiet and revy. The GS boxer engine taught me to shift earlier and use the torque at maybe between 4-5000 on the twin boxer.

My bike engine is fine like yours BUT the 2019 gearbox/clutch is a clackity old affair... but I am not worried, it is a Yamaha! My XJR is a much more qualitative experience but they are two different bikes for different things. The XT for me if I could only have one bike. I am actually worried about what I am going to do when I wear this one out, you can't get them like this anymore. If I had the money I would buy another new one and use it sparingly so it can take over in time. The XJR is preserving the miles in the meantime. I do about 750miles a month, so they should both last years yet.

Have you checked to make sure the wheels aren’t messed up from someone attempting to adjust the spokes and not knowing what they were doing ? That’s what happened to the first Tenere I had bought low miles used, it was so far out of wack that I had to pay a very experienced spoke adjuster to fix that issue.

I can't say the spokes are perfect, but I'm confidant the noise is engine-related.....though it might be a normal S10 sound.

I came from an in-line 4 and the S10 sounded like a box of rocks. I found out this was normal and eventually stopped worrying. The noise is worse with the skid plate. As was mentioned, Dynamat on the skid plate does wonders to dampen the clacks.

In all seriousness, probably nothing to worry about. Ryan from Fortnine has done a good video about the S10, also explaining the firing sequence. And there is a top quality video called “XT1200Z Engine Powertrain” on YouTube. Can’t post a link right now.

With 5000miles it ain’t even broken in yet.
Go ride, get used to the bike. But above all: ENJOY!!

I have wanted an S10 since I did 500 miles on a demo over a weekend in 2015. I'm hoping to Long Haul Paul this girl.

There's another member on here that takes great sunrise pics. His first Tenere has about a quarter million miles on it. And, he's still take "short" trips to other states on it. His stage name is eemsreno.

Sounds normal. The first few minutes of every ride are a disconcerting cacophony of noises. I came from a '17 GS. I think the fairing/cockpit and proximity to the top of the motor shapes what we hear. I just rode the thing for 8 hours the other day and I was marveling how consistent and smooth it was on the open road. Reminded me of my '07 FZ6 - which again - was sewing machine smooth. I do miss the GS. It made me want to do naughty and dangerous things. My wife hated that bike. Loves this one. Rabbit hole.
