2012,
what mileage you got on it by the way

I got some really good "engine noise" advice from my dad when I was a teen. He told me to simply remember the distinct sound of each different motor. As long as the sound stays the same then it's all good.I guess I'm a wierdo. I find myself listening to my engine, and exhaust. Trying not to like it. Trying to say something negative about the note. Can't do it. I started out not really thinking about it. But, the more and more people that say it sounds like crap. . . . The more I actually listened to it. To me, it sounds like a bad ass. Not in the same way that my FJ with a Vance & Hines does, but it does. At the gym, I park with my back tire to the wall. It has a serious rumble/thump echoing off of the wall. The FJR, and even the FJ, does not. So, once again. . . . one less thing to worry about.
My old 2003 WR 450 used to sound like a rod was going to come through the case! I ran that bike 13 years and it never gave me a problem. The skid plate sent the noise upward. I think the Yamaha, Genesis design engines are just louder than most. Honda on the other hand has some of the quietest engines that I've heard. These Yammy's are tough as Hell though.I got some really good "engine noise" advice from my dad when I was a teen. He told me to simply remember the distinct sound of each different motor. An example was my Honda 650R. I was ripping through a sand wash and freaking with this sudden nasty knocking noise coming from the motor. It was consistent and got louder with the revs. I eased up on the throttle and nursed it back to camp thinking the motor was history. It ended up being a loose skid plate!! Lesson learned.
All joking aside these parallel twins tend to make quite a bit of noise. I happen to like the engine design. I'm a big fan of both the parallel and single cylinder motors.
And then there is the triple!! Never owned one but boy oh boy what a sound!!
