I can only speak of my bike...a '14. It really helps to put the year down when speaking of the bikes in general. What you described is completely normal for '14 and above. It happened to me too and when I asked the pros, they all said this is normal. I noticed a change in the tone of the engine after about 2k miles. Very quiet at first, then a little rattly. The pre '14's I've heard are even worse with the rattly noise.

My dealer told me to ignore the book and vary the rev range up to 7k but I've not gone that high. There are 2 schools of thought on engine break in, by the book, low revs and take your time or ride it hard from the off but I went by the book (sort of, after 300 miles of 3.9k I took it to 5k). You should be fine

Note that the manual says "Avoid PROLONGED operation" above 3900 RPM, not "Thou shall not exceed" it.

I don't think you have anything to worry about.. Like someone else mentioned, manual says not to have constant RPMs over 3900 for the first 600 then 4900 for the next 400 miles. Dunno about you, but I've missed a few gears here and there learning the bike and I'm pretty sure that is common. Going over 3900RMP here and there I don't think is going to cause you problems.

First service done, tech said that a noisy Tenere engine is a happy Tenere engine. If it gets quiet then begin worrying. He adjusted the throttle cables a bit and now it feels smoother but still vibrates a bit at a stoplight and the bars are a little buzzy around 4k.

The problem with the noisy engine is the exhaust, it is just too silent. This morning I just passed a Ducati Scrambler and love that sound of the Vtwin. I wish the S10's exhaust were like that, not obnoxiously loud, but sweet type of sound. Ducati engines are clunky and noisy, so they fixed it with a louder exhausts. Smart Italians!

I did the Motoman Hard-Breakin, the moment I got my bike. Vibes are always there between 2.5 to 3k rpm due to the clutch basket. Mine is a 2012, Gen1, so expected to be more obvious. CO settings to +4 for each cylinders seems to reduce signficantly on the vibes, and adding better throttle response as the additional benefit.

I wouldn't sweat it. Ride a Ural some time if you want to experience worrying engine noises.

1K into my 2016. Yes it's noisy compared to my old FZ1. About on par with a buddies Multistrada I guess. ::021::
