Those KTM's are highly modified that run in the Dakar Rally. The Dakar Rally is a very poor indicator of the reliability of a consumer owned machine. There is no way any OEM KTM is as reliable as a Japanese bike. And that includes my 300 which was a money pit from day one of owning it. Please do not take my word for it. Just go into any KTM service department and see how many of the motors are out of the bikes and on the bench being fixed.btw, that pos KTM as you call it beats yamaha/honda in every possible department what is very apparent on Dakar Rally.
Better suspension, better power, better torque, new technology use, plastics etc etc I know because I own one and it's not less
reliable then yamaha or honda I have as well. As a matter of fact, just the opposite, more problems so far I had with yamaha.
As far as removing the charcoal canister, the only benefit is less weight and bulk. There is no performance gain whatsoever. Engine is not going to run any cooler.
