By this time next week I should have the Gen2 Flash ::008::

Thanks for answering the queries so promptly, although I have one last question...

Could the bike be flashed again by someone else, I know some Flash companies are able to "lock" the ECU, but the problem with that is you ever want it changed and the vendor is no longer around you are stuck.

I am hoping I would never need to change it, or an Unleashed agent would be around to do this, but nice to know if in years to come if something happened to Unleashed or their agent I could get another Flash from someone else if I had to.
Rasher, so the ECUnleashed flash works on UK bikes as well? Wasn't there a poster who ran into problems because of ECU differences between the US and Euro-spec bikes?

I believe the issue was with modified bikes (different downpipes) that free up the breathing / power significantly, although ECU Unleashed are starting to confuse me now...

We modify the tables allowing us to utilize the stock O2 sensor
and

2. Are the O2 sensors no longer required - can I remove them and fit an exhaust bung, or would I need eliminators to stop any warning lights
They are not required, however if they are removed we are able to eliminate the dash error codes from there removal
Surely if they are using the sensor I cannot remove it, also are they not just narrow band sensors in which case they cannot be utilised regardless of how you alter the mapping.

This is where I get confused with organisations like ECU Unleashed, I think they tend to jumble up info from multiple models, when you talk to smaller independants they will tell you exactly what they will do to your motorcycle and go through any options.

ECU Unleashed seem to say we can do this, that and the other, but like above they tart to contradict themselves which always makes me nervous, I am now getting the feeling our questions are bein answered by the marketing department who are just going to tell us what we want to hear, rather than the technical department telling us the truth.

So what is it - do you, or do you not use the O2 sensor  and if so how can you utilise a narrow band sensor to work in a different area

And did you make up the answers to all the other questions

The reference to "car" seems to indicate cut and pasted generic info as well. :)

Mark,

First of all thank you for posting the clarifying information regarding the new flash! I would also like to have the closed loop question sorted as there is some conflicting information shared. I have the gen 1 flash and I needed to add a PC as it was much to lean and stumbled/surged until I added fuel so an updated flash would be great. I have been running without the 02 sensors based on feedback from my ECUnleased rep who did the first flash and it did not throw any FI codes on the dash so I figured the feedback from these sensors on the closed loop area was no longer part of the ECU programming. If I understand what you have shared is that the 02 sensor input has been eliminated out of the ECU programming and that proper fuel tables are now in place eliminating the need for the sensor input. Thanks for your help on this.

I have a question on how this reflash will effect the power commander I just had mapped for my bike. I have the Gen 1 flash and the bike is running excellent, I am inclined not to make any changes. What would be the advantage at this point?

I would be interested in hearing from anyone that gets this GEN2 flash and actually can tell it makes a difference, especially MPG.

I am overnighting mine today, with pre-paid overnight return service. I will be able to give it a whirl next weekend, probably.

My search-foo is not working well today. Can someone please point me to the thread with the instructions for removing the ECU from the bike? I have slept since the time removed it.

Thanks!

Significant improvements to the throttle response in "S" mode maps
1) Greater fuel efficiency in "S" mode maps
2) "T" mode mapping remains stock but we made slight adjustments to the AFR (Air/Fuel Ratio) in 5th and 6th gear producing a value of 13:1 as opposed to 12.7:1(factory)
3) Better advance maps over both cylinders 1 and 2
4) Fully compensated for the closed loop routine below 5k rpm
I'm under the impression that #'s 1,2,4 sound as if they're strictly fueling changes. Correct? I can see where that's a good update for folks if they won't be running a 3rd party fuel management system like a Power Commander or Bazzaz.
Can you elaborate a bit more on #3? Are you referring to timing map changes? If so, what scenarios would it be "better" (i.e. what does better mean?)
Thanks in advance.

just to clear this up real quick, I copied the instructions for shipping and ordering your new tune file from an email I was writing. You caught me, but it is the same procedure.

Sorry to hear about your accident.

I think the two biggest questions / areas of confusion are:

1. Are the O2 sensors utilised

2. What are the effects of a Gen2 Flash on a bike with a Power Commander

a. Would the PC map need altering if the Flash is updated on a bike with a power commander

b. Could the Power Commander be removed with little / no disadvantage if upgrading to a Gen2 Flash

c. Or for people without any other mods does the Gen2 Flash pretty much eliminate any "need" for a power commander

Many thanks

Robert
