Spoke to a friend with Yamaha today. He said there would be no issue with warranty from Italy or otherwise. He also suggested that I contact http://www.jetttuning.com/home JETTtuning... I called and spoke to the owner. By working with the Yamaha R1 and R6 they know where the code is and how to change it. He said they need a bike for about two weeks to develop the changes. They are 65 miles north of LA in southern California. If someone can take there bike in then they are ready to go. He told me they would start working on the tune 24 hours after receiving the bike.

If anyone is interested PM me and I will fill you in on the rest of the info. Just another possibility.......

I was told that they cant read the ecm at most dealers. Again, I was told that unless you walk up to there face and tell them that you have done X-Y-Z then everything is fine... This person also told me that even if they know, it should not be an issue... I was asking these questions for myself as well, because I have the 5 year warranty....

Isn't your serial number given to Yamaha? There was a post on that, and I think I read it there. There could be two reasons for that and one being for the EPA. Yamaha could be covering it's ass by having that info and calling it off road racing bike.
I really don't know but....
The ECM is covered with stickers from Diapson, unless Kees put those on himself.

He probably did... :D I asked my guy today about that... He said that has much more to do with Euro 'info' that US info.. Yamaha Europe / warranty has nothing to do with the US... I was told, its not an issue.... Came from the horses mouth... I'm good with that..
By the way,... Ill just pull the Diapason sticker off... Ya cant see it up in there anyway... :D If the swing arm breaks in half, I don't think they will be looking into reading the ECM, with the reader they don't have.... :D

Fast forward a year from now.... I think there will be many, with different options. I have a funny feeling the "tune" can be turned up more. We might even see a RR tune by someone.... I'm at the point my bike works awesome, and im very happy... I don't need or want a high strung race bike... But talking to so many different people, im just reporting... ::26::

Now we are talking Jax ::012::

I would be up for it but my bike will not be available until mid Febuarly. I leave tommarow for 8 days of fun in Las Vegas for the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). When I get back I am dropping my bike off at Yoshimura. They are using it to develop thier new Tenere exhaust ::008::. They will have the bike for 2-3 weeks.

When I get it back if you still need a bike let me know as I'm game.

Cool! I hope you can get something arranged. I went to their ECU flash page and noted one of the features was "Closed loop function eliminated," so you guys with PC/AT can have fun with that. ::001::

I also noted that for the R1 and R6 it says "Motorcycle starts in 'A' mode," which probably means they will choose to have the S10 ECU start in (and therefore preserve) T mode

I agree... My thoughts where just this. In my case the warranty was worked in the deal. So there that was... If I was in Alaska 5,000 miles from my shop here, and four years from now something strange broke it would be taken care of... I have a Road Star that had a five year warranty. I told myself it was not worth the money but got it with the bike... (long story short) I never had one once of issue with the bike until two months before the warranty was going expire. The starter went out, that over loaded the starter relay, that burned up, that melted the wire harness, that cooked wires and electronics, that caused a big mess....... LOL They fixed all of that didn't cost a penny, replaced the wire harness, and all the effected parts... Also told them that I thought I had a slight noise around the clutch... The bearing that holds the throw out shaft went out. You cant just replace that bearing, you have to replace the whole side chrome clutch cover and the other involved parts... They replaced all that as well...... Point being, the bike had zero issues until then,,, and has had zero issues since then.. But that one trip for warranty was WAY-WAY-WAY more than the few hundred for the warranty....
Going back to Alaska, if I was up there and something really strange happened I would not want to be shelling out $XXXX.XX to fix my scooter to get home... Its a really cheep piece of mind...... Of course that just MOP and my $.02....... ::008::

I was also asking about warranty because I get many calls everyday about this ECM thread. There are many guys that don't post that have questions. Many do not want to touch the ECM because of the warranty issue they might or might not have. So I was also calling for all the guys that call and ask the same question about warranty about everyday.... ::26::

Is there anyway we can fix the speedometer (mine is 9% fast), make the traction control have an off with out stopping?, disable the anti lock brakes (not permanently)

I would drop my bike off but I am too far north.
