This is a copy of an earlier post....

Hey, didn't see many posts for Gen 2 reviews of Anthony's reflash so I thought I would post my experience.

Background - coming off a 2008 FJR with 55K miles, wanted something more comfortable and get TC and cruise control, so found a 2014 ES with 4K miles and fully farkled (also have a 2005 SV 650).

The one shortcoming of the ST for me is the engine, but you can't compare it to a FJR, apples & oranges but wanted more out of the engine. I sent the ECU to Anthony, here is my experience.

Anthony - great to deal with, answered my questions quickly and turned around my ECU in one day = stellar!

Reflash review - not sure what I expected but it is exceeded my expectations. Much more "tractable" power, more linear and more torque in every gear. I felt 2nd and 3rd gear (in sport) were kind of short and useless, much better now. I didn't even ride in "T" it seemed weak but now very usable and "S" just has balls now!

Less engine braking, smoother, easier to ride, more power, more fun! It may be my imagination but the engine sound better, less "clanky". Now I don't miss my FJR at all!

For the price it can't be beat, highly recommended! Ride safe - Edbo.

Just another satisfied customer with Anthony’s ecu flash. Go for it, you won’t regret it. My ST is ‘13 so the flash really woke things up,got to ride my friends ‘14 Unflashed and it seems Yamaha corrected the issue somewhat but not completely IMO.

I recently had my 2015 flashed be Anthony (avc8130). Customer service and turn around was great. I did not ride the bike for long prior to the reflash but I think it has more power. The biggest improvment for me is power that is smoother and more linear and smoother engine braking. The improvements are more obvious to me when I try to ride on tight twisty roads.

I have had my 14 es done by Anthony, his "standard" gen 2 reflash. In my opinion, it makes the power delivery "what it should be" from the factory. Much smoother, without the massive engine braking. I had expected to notice quicker pickup in lower gears, but I think it seems quicker in higher gears more so. I've recently started riding off pavement in AZ, and I am amazed at the luggability and power on demand for these rocky trails. (I don't really have a good "before" comparison.) With less engine braking there is probably more rear brake use on these rides. $225 is not a trivial amount in my book, and I debated for over a year before getting it done. It is a good investment if you plan on keeping your bike for many miles!

Well that depends, Anthony has a menu of different levels of flashes. He will help to guide what does what, also huge improvement was being able to reduce or increase engine braking. I recommend riding a bike in stock form for a while till you know what you want to improve.

yeah. I've put about 25k miles on my gen2. Then I rode a flashed gen1. Tricky because I liked the feel and the response of the throttle, but I've gotten used to all the engine braking and I kinda like it. It really saves on brake pads (silly reason to some). When I got back on my bike it felt a little lazy, but also better in some ways. These are very small differences, and if I hadn't gotten the chance to ride the two back to back, I would have been fine never knowing the difference. I've not ridden a flashed Gen2, though. That would really help me decide.

I got to ride my friends gen 2 unflashed, felt like they did improve the power delivery (almost felt electric)but I still like my flashed 13. As far as engine braking,I hear you on the pads (not cheap) but the benefit is ,your arms get less tired riding standing up off road and eventually you start using the gears to control speed so brakes don’t take the abuse. There is levels of engine braking per flash that Anthony offers if I remember correctly. Hope this helps.

My '13 was already flashed when I bought it last year.
The particular ECU flash (can't recall the name of the flash type) that was done basically lifts the factory restrictions in the both "S" and "T" modes and it allows the electric radiator fans to come on at 205°.
I rode a bunch of unflashed Gen1s during my S10 search and when I first rode the flashed one that I ended up buying I immediately noticed
the difference.
In stop-n-go NYC traffic during hot weather the electric fans coming on can be quite manic but my S10's engine temp readout has never gone higher than 215°.
For NY traffic (sorry you have to deal with that nightmare) I would choose the T mode flash. It works great on loose gravel, heavy traffic, wet. The flash delivers a nice smooth linear power till you hit 4k rpm than goes to 1:1 aggressive power. As far as the S mode it’s 1:1 with reduced engine braking.

During my Motocross racing days we used Water Wetter trying to reduce temps. Might help a little. Since you’re in NY (sea level) what’s your average mpg? I’m mile high and I always get 48mpg.

It's ironic you mention this because the first few weeks after I picked up my S10, I always rode in "S"mode regardless of riding conditions. However once I became used to the big girl and talking to other S10 owners I tried using the "T" mode more often and I ended up preferring
that mode. It just a bit more civilized throughout but when I need to amp up a bit "S" mode makes me grin.

Honestly even though I put about 1200 miles on my S10 in less than 4 months I never really accurately tracked the fuel mileage per gallon or per tankful. Will make a point to do so once I am riding regularly again.

BTW, looks like in your avatar pic you have a pearl white '13 S10 as well.
