This mod has helped a huge amount for me. Simple and cheap (in this version free!). It will take some more mileage but between this and my Alaska leather ... I may have the cheapest seat fix ever!

I thought that part was under everyone's pillion seat?!? I've got the Yamaha top box and it goes behind this portion.
I see now, I though you said these grommets were part of a Yamaha luggage rack, the problem is I use the pillion seat a fair bit and I assume these are there to support it and would not want to risk breaking the seat / back of bike by removing them. Will see how much they are from Yamaha.

Still not sure how this works as you still have four rubber bungs all of the same height, even if it is a different height I can't see how this levels the seat

Sorry, I mispoke. I never ride with a passenger and havent had my pillion seat on since the day I bought the bike so I just see it as a luggage rack. I forget that other people use it how it's intended.

The 4 shorter rubber pieces from the pillion go on the back side of the "drivers" seat. The taller rubber pieces that stay on the riders seat are in the front. Therefore, when the pieces all make their contact points the front is pushed higher due to the taller rubber.

When I checked over here the pillion rubbers from Yamaha were only $2 and some change.

I took Paul466's mod one step further. I REMOVED the four rear rubber bumpers altogether. I left the plastic in the high position but without the bumpers on the rear section of the seat, was able to hook the seat in the LOWER rear mount. The seat is tight, no rocking at all, and definitely lower in the back than any other arrangement. It looks a little funky though because now there is an excessive gap between the front of the seat and the tank. It's raining here so I have not tried it yet, but it "looks" like it is a potential cure for the forward slant.

Pretty close to the same set up as i did.

I Cut the H Fram (black plastic part with raised stumps in half). Front part goes in the High position Zip tied solid. And rear part goes in the low position zip tied solid. I have smaller rubber bumps in the back also.

Pretty flat and locked in solid no rocking. My herniated discs are now happy I can go more then 200 miles without stopping in pain. Before 75 miles i was ready for a 20 minute break.

Whats cool is the pillion seat now acts as a support for my lower back when I hit the throttle etc..

yes there is a gap from the Tank to the front seat which is not so attractive but its worth the comfort. Gap is about 1 inch from tank at the top.
