I am into a 3000 mile trip right now. Installed Dunlop TR91 tires for this ride. Had K60's with 7600 miles that I took off. While I haven't had any real problems with the K60's, I did not care for the ride they provided and was not 100 percent confident about their grip on pavement. The TR's are much smoother and for the type of dirt/gravel road riding I do they seem to work just as good as the K60's. On a steep dirt/gravel uphill climb I had to get into the throttlre pretty hard to engage TC with them . I could get TC light blinking in first three gears with the K60's on dry pavement. This morning I wasn't getting TC light in rain on wet road with TR's. Accelerating hard enough to lift front wheel shifting into second. I know the rear will wear out faster, but I will put up with that for the better road manners.

I don't doubt the Dunlops are much nicer on pavement. (They LOOK sweet) And they may be "good enough" for whatever off-road you are doing.

But in all honesty, I just can't imagine they would be comparable in the off-road that some of the K60 crazies around here are doing. Laws of physics would simply come into play in some off-road conditions. Teeth can get more bite than gums, if you know what I mean. :)

Glad you found a better tire for your needs, but you're comparing apples to oranges. There are several other options in that (TR91) category, but the K60's are in a different league all together. Check out the Heidenau K76's if the Dunlops don't get you the mileage you are looking for. I've also heard great things about the new Full Bore M-40; sort of a longer lasting, harder core Shinko 705.

The K60's are on my list of next items, I ride these Texas back roads, I do not do 50/50, but I agree with Mikef5000, I trade a srot bike in for this bike so, outright carving is out, besides I am converting my WR 450 to 17" wheels and dual sport kit, That way if I need to see the horizon tilt I will use that!

Here is link to a video of some of the roads I ride, I think the K 60's will fit the bill perfectly! It is on my smug mug account, This site will not let me link it in the vide section. Thanks!

Nothing wrong with the K60's and I agree that they are better in soft/muddy conditions. For my purpose I am more comfortable with the more street tire and will accept the compromise offroad. in last week have done 2300 miles with maybe 50 dirt/gravel and no soft stuff. With this type of riding the TR's work better on road and just as well on normal dirt/gravel roads for me. Not trying to convert anyone, just my experience with the TR's to this point. I will use K60's on my six month ride because they wear so well.

Ok George,

Spit it out! You can't show us, your fellow Texans, that video (excellent, by the way) and then not tell us what roads those are! :)

And, you are gonna LOVE repeating that ride with the K60's!

Sorry for the hijack. Got a bit excited.

I recognize some of those as the dirt roads south of Llano; east and west of HWY 16. Good stuff indeed.

Snakebitten, thanks for the kind words. I have been riding these roads for some time- I figured after shooting them my secrets would be out. (that is a good thing!)

CBAT you are close some of the still are from a road off of 2323- The other shots are from a series of roads, off of 71, South East of Llano I have a SPOT marking my way, I can send the GPX data, but the roads there are 315, 308 and 312. The other were north of there off of 16 (baby head road I call it) and cuts to 501. I knew of there riding my MZ Baghira, but it is a new game now!

So let's get some folks together and tear these road apart!

Thanks for the Info, that is as "extreme" as I will ever get and it is nice to know sacrificing slab grip won't provide much (if any) of an advantage, especially as my use will be 95% pure road, 5% almost a road and about 1% of what many of you would consider to be "off-road" - hard packed gravel or dirt.

I am also not as happy with the K60s for the same reason as Z60.....good to hear about the Dunlops...I may try those next (I've put about 4.5K on my K60s)

I have a set sitting at the dealer awaiting installation. I'll report back after they are on.

Will be watching for your impressions. I got back Monday from my trip. 3500 miles on these tires now. Are working very well for me. Rode some gravel roads off the side of Blue Ridge Parkway this past weekend. On the steep uphill climbs with stutter bumps I think there was less intervention from traction control than with the K60's. Seems like the TR's get thru the loose stuff and grip the hardpack underneath and the K60's just keep spinning. Again I guess it depends on the actual surface your on.

I usually start at CR 310 off of 71 and ride to Click and turn left. There is a nasty water crossing out there with a steel plate for about 8 feet in the middle. Talk about slick.
