Jumping late here, but I see where some feel vibes a bit on a Ten compared to a goldie or an FJR...but for ANY twin, this is a smooth motor.
Second, on a back rest, you are likely looking to a more custom application because the bike is more multipurpose than most bikes and a back rest is VERY counter intuitive on a dirt bike. Not that the Ten is a "dirt bike" per say, but it is versatile in that way and a back rest could be bad in the wrong situation.

Personally backrest is easy to make or even have made, I made one for the back of my RT but honestly have found that a back rest need is more a symptom of a bad fitting seat than actually a need for a back rest....that comes from a guy with plates, screws and pins in his neck and back...comfort is important for me.

I love the ingenuity and inovation here. Never thought that a back rest would come up.

That's for sure. I've been searching eBay for a pad and related hardware. I'll probably put something together. I'll need a plate to attach it to I guess

Used it for about 500 miles. Works great for interstate travel but not great for shorter locations trips as it is not easy (requires tools) to remove it.
Wife had concerns about the rider back rest getting in the way of my entry and exit from the bike,
Also if you do a low speed drop the rider backrest tends to trap you from easy movement. (Yes it happened to me and wife saw it .... She told me to remove it for daily use) And I agreed.

So took it off and have it in the garage. ....

a large Aerostich seat bag makes for a wonderful back rest, particularly if you pack the front pouch with soft stuff like tee shirts, gloves etc:

'cross-country like that more than once, 'just saying. It will also hold more stuff than you have any business carrying. Bonus round: a water bottle holder!
