Does anyone make replacement aluminum Mag Rims for the S10?

I may take some backlash for this one but I was looking around to see if any company makes a replacement aluminum mag rim for the S10, or if mag rims from another bike would fit. I will never take mine offroad and purchased it strictly for street touring and commuting. I have never seen an S10 with Mag Wheels and maybe it would not look right, but checking to see if it is possible.

No backlash deserved. In fact, I'm betting there's a few folks on here hoping you DO!!!

Those oem spoked wheels would sell quickly if you listed them. :)

I wondered if the wheels off of a FJR would fit but if they did someone would have done it by now.

The only wheel swaps I recall on any Tenere were Woodys type wheels. Either switching to a 21" up front, or a replacement rim for toughness.

Whatever you find/do, be careful of the clearance on the back brake caliper support and the tire. I wanted to fit a bigger rear tire, but there is no extra clearance. Just curious....why did you want switch to cast aluminum? The OE spoke wheels are tubeless, so they'll use the same tires. ::001::

No mags are known available.
As others mentioned, custom wheels have been made - all of which were spoke wheels.

No. At least not the rear. I sourced a used FJR wheel from an '09 long with the ABS rotor sensor. It's the same style ABS. Tore it apart and was going to try and make it work. Way too different in the cush drive and thickness of the wheel at the hub. I even bought a brake caliper bracket to modify so I could hopefully swap back and forth. There are far too many things to change to make it feasible. (this coming from a machinist that is not afraid to fabricate and weld, machine, etc.) I also spoke to Woodies about re-working or coming up with a cast wheel for the Super Ten and he didn't want to go there, flatly stating it would end up too expensive. Considering what Woody wants for re-laced S10 wheels, that's saying a lot. His wheels are already far more than I could stomach paying for, just doing a wheel with stock or his rims.

The bigger question is why. After a little extra spoke attention for the first couple of services, there is no downside to the spoked wheels other than cleaning them. You cannot outride the 150 tire that is on there stock, so if it is about wanting a wider rear tire on the back, you actually CAN put up to a 170 on the rear as it is, but you gain nothing.

Believe it or not, the spoke wheels are actually stronger than the cast wheels. When I got my S10, I was considering buying another set of wheels from Yamaha. Then I would have a set with street tires on and a set with knobbies mounted up. Would have been nice, but wow the price was really high. If I remember correctly it was like in the $2000 range. I think a wheel made like the Honda comstar design might work for ADV bikes. Too bad nobody makes them.

The 'why' is simple, extra wheels for temp or permanent duty. Personally I would like a second set for street tires for slab runs.

The 'how' is always the more challenging aspect.

Different machine, but my C-10 has different wheels to upgrade tire selection and performance. Rear wheel came off the Mean Streak and with minor machining bolted right up with a different brake rotor. The biggest hurdle for the Tenere is the fact that most large bore street models run a fairly wide rear tire, so possibly an older wheel that runs a thinner tire could possibly work.

One of the issues with finding a way to run a set of cast wheels on the S10, beyond simply getting the wheels to fit and aligning the brake rotor, is the ABS type we use. You additionally need to either find a wheel set up for the same type of ABS sensor rotor, or machine/adapt a wheel that fits to use the ABS sensor rotor that works with the Super Ten and make a sensor cover to fit and work with the correct placement of the pick up sensor.

That was the appeal of the FJR wheel, some Gens use the same system of sensor rotor and cover as the Super Tenere. Sadly, that wheel won't work w/o extensive machining and either welding in new material or press fitting a sleeve with a new piece that fits with the Super Ten dimensions. And its still speculation on if you will end up with a wheel that can be directly swapped out. It would be great if Yamaha simply offered cast wheels as an option or another bike's wheels were a direct fit, but as far as I know that isn't the case at this time.

I have outridden the OE 150 tire. (no chicken strips at all; minor rear slippage) Of course I was chasing an R6 through tight corners, without excessive speed, and without anything dragging. With normal riding, you're absolutely correct, the OE tire is very adequate. A 170 tire is 3/4" wider. It doesn't LOOK like it would clear the caliper support. EricV says it all, it would cost a fortune for small, if any, benefits.

Simply put, I like the looks of a mag over spokes. One of the features that attracted me to the Versys 1000. But the S10 far surpasses the Versys in all other aspects.
