Does anybody have a line on good deal on a new or used '14ES or '15ES?

Greetings to all--

I did my long test ride today, and I have to say that I'm more or less hooked.

But, I also realize that this isn't the best time to buy a new bike. I'm therefore using that as an opportunity to practice my patience until this winter. I can find bikes, but I don't really want to pay full retail for a two year old bike.

HOWEVER-- If someone happens to know of a Blue 2014 ES or a Red 2015 ES languishing in a dealership somewhere that's priced to sell, please do let me know. A price with a "12" in the front and some lower numbers in the back would be outstanding!

Let's say 1200 miles or so from Denver? And no California bikes?

Failing that, I guess I'll just keep my eyes open. 2017 models will be here soon. As will snow, cold, hail and sleet.

Is it weird that now all of a sudden I'm excited for winter?

Thanks to all--- keep a weather eye out!

R.

Have you tried "onecraigs.com"? It does a nationwide search. I just tried it and some '14 and '15 ES models popped up.

Good luck!!

I tried "SearchTempest"; but didn't get much.

I tried OneCraigs, but didn't get much in the way of ES-- except for a bunch of posts in Spanish.

Will attempt again.

The 14ES were matte grey in the USA. The 14 non ES was available in blue.

BTW, I asked my dealer here in IL to do a dealer search for a red 15ES and he will do that Monday. Right now it is their annual Customer Appreciation Days and very busy today, Sat and Sun.

Thank you *VERY* much!

I didn't know that about the colors. Good to know.

I've found some '15 ES's on CycleTrader and CL, but wow, are the prices all over the map-- a lot of the dealers are advertising the bike at more or less (or actually more) than the same price as a '16 ES. Best I've found so far is $13.8, which seems a bit high for the bike.

Go figure. Not much in the way of private party sales, either.

Thanks again-- VERY much appreciated.

Now, back to reading through 661 pages of "What did you do to your Tenere today?" threads!

What did you enter in the search field???? ::025::

I entered "Super Tenrere" and came up with several hits for '14 and '15 models.

Like this one: https://allentown.craigslist.org/mcy/5573197370.html

Ah, yes. Tried that-- but you get the base Super Ten-- not the ES version.

But that PA one would be awesome if it was an ES!

They need to color code these things!

:D

The search brings up both, yes. But the PA one is an ES version - note the RED color.

Edit: Hmmmm, not sure now if it is an ES or not. The color is right, but I'm not seeing some of the other indicators....

Re: Does anybody have a line on good deal on a new '14ES or '15ES?

Sigh. Spent a bunch of time last night looking at other sites-- lots of wasserboxers and KTM's for sale in comparison to the ST-- and priced (with farkles) very competitive to a stock ST.

More research required. I do like the BMW (but have only sat on it) and I have a few friends who love theirs..... but the potential maintenance costs are kind of frightening. And I intend to keep this bike for a looooong time.

I know nothing about the KTM.

Flying a four day trip tonight. Lots of time to research!

R.

PS: I emailed the guy in PA-- I think it's a non-ES but we'll see.

Yes, in studying the pictures a little more this morning, it looks to be a non-ES. Apparently someone has done a Tupperware swap.....

flybigjet,

I just rode one too and loved it but for the snatchy throttle. Just made an new thread asking about that issue, which seems too extreme to be tolerable.
I rode the red one at G force in Boulder, and I am located in Niwot. Where are you?
If I can get past the throttle issue, I will be watching this thread for deals. I like the red too, but am not particular on color. There are quite a few deals on Cycletrader, but you may have already checked them out.

I'm in Littleton. But honestly, I'm usually only home about ten days a month.

I agree with you about the throttle positioning, but from what I've read, a reflash does help with that. It wasn't a huge deal for me, but maybe I'm just used to riding bikes with lower-rotation throttles?

Been looking on CycleTrader, but most of the bikes are posted at $16k-ish (their original MSRP). I've not had time to follow up on that.

I'm actually torn-- I really liked the bike yesterday when I rode it.... but I didn't "fall in love" with it (that's happened once or twice in all of the bikes I've owned). So, I'm not willing to pay a premium for it. Additionally, I added up my "If I get the bike, here's what I'm going to do" list, and stopped counting at $5k-- this farkle stuff adds up quick!

And, as my lovely wife pointed out this morning, adding up the price of the bike, plus my "farkle list" (I can NOT leave a bike alone-- wrenching on them is kind of a hobby), that puts me in range of some low-mileage, farkled out wasserboxer 1200GS's.

Which I think I'm going to have to test ride..... but, those potential maintenance costs terrify me!

So for now, unless I fall into a great deal on a lightly used bike or someone wanting to clear out old stock, I'm going to take a step back and let the world revolve.

At least, that's my answer for today. I'm flying the next week anyway!

Bigflyjet,
Thanks for your reply above. I used to I've in Ken Caryl (for 22 years) so I know Littleton pretty well.
Taking a step back and weighing your options and desires is a good idea. If you give it some time, the right decision will present itself. I really like the feel of the Super T but the throttle snatch is going to kill it for me. I rode an FJR today, and liked it too, but I am on the fence about the knee room on the thing. Was sort of surprised to find the FJR had no snottiness whatsoever. So, still pondering and puttering about on the old reliable vstrom for now. Good luck with your search!

The 2015 Super Tenere non ES was available in the same red as the ES and was also available in silver.

Flybeqiet,
Take over the loan of mine. I want no money down, just for someone to assume the loan through their bank or what ever. I have a 2015ES I bought in December, heated grips, Elect Suspension, Cruise Control, et. I only have a hair over 2000 miles on it. Kept it on my porch out of the elements. I have three piece Givi luggage too. My only problem is that since I was bad top heavy when I traded my 2015 FJ09 in on it I still owe $22,000 on it. Of course I financed in with it that Givi luggage and 3 year extended warranty, maintenance, GAP, etc.

I'd love to..... for about $10k less!

Actually, I think I'm going to test ride a wasserboxer R1200GS and decide between the two bikes. I'm seeing some low mileage, well farkled bikes going around the $15k range. I figure a low-mileage '15ES plus the farkles I'd like makes the two cost-comparable.

Good luck, though. Being on the back side of a loan is never fun.
