I know I read it somewhere in here, and I have searched to no avail.

Would someone with the OEM Yamaha auxilllary lights please measure the clearance distance between the bottom of the lights and the top of the fender and report back? Please!

I was mounting some Hella lights and only have a clearance of 7.0 inches. With the fork travel of 7.48 inches, this is going to be a problem I think, but quite honestly, I think the Yamaha auxilllary lights dont provide that much clearance....but I could be wrong. I'm missing something here and not sure what.

Thanks in advance.

I didn't measure it, but I had a similar problem with some 4" HID's I mounted. I wound up putting them on the engine guard with some PIAA 360 brackets. It's worked out great.

What lights would you be using?

Why not mount on the crashbars(if you have) instead for better clearance?

Show some pictures too? ::013::

They are a Hella FF 50 lights...not that such even matters.

Dont wish to go to crash bars because I have a tendency to use the bike on occassion for bushwhacking on trails....and such exposes the lights to damage too easily.

Why do you need pictures to give me an answer? They are/were going to be mounted in a bracket I already made and am curious on the measurement. If I need a new bracket, I can fab one up, but at this point I just need the measurement of the distance between fender and bottom of the lights when OEM Yamaha auxillary lights are mounted. Nothing more, nothing less.

When drawing a horizontal and parallel line across the lowest part of the light lens and measuring this against a horizontal and parallel line to the highest portion of the fender while the suspension is topped out, I came up with approximately 7.5 inches.

That you for the measurment, Firefight911. Appreciated. Looks like I'm going to either raise my mount a 1/2 inch or mount the lights elsewhere which is not an option in my case.

I mounted my Hella's (FF50's) under the headlight and haven't had issues. If you want some measurements let me know.

That looks EXACTLY how mine are set up! I only have 7 inches (plus or minus) between the bottom of the lamp housing and the top of the fender. I suspect you have the same, but if you would get a measurement that would be appreciated. Additionally, I'd be curious if you have put an o-ring or zip tie on your front fork to obtain a measurment of how much travel you have actually used (or how much is left from the o-ring/zip tie to the top of the black colored boss which holds the axle.).

Well thanks for asking me to measure as now I'm suspect of my mount! ::025:: From the fender to the bottom of the lights is 6-3/8" (measured along the line of the suspension with the bike sitting on the centre stand). I measured the clean area of the forks and my max travel was 5-1/4". I did "jump" the bike once by mistake when coming into a gravel parking lot (I didn't see a small berm ??? ) and I didn't have any interference issues.

Thanks for the distance measurement. I have 7 inches clearance, as mentioned above.

If you are using only 5-1/4 inches travel.....either you ride in areas not using the alloted 7.48 inches of travel (a possibility), something is mechanically wrong inside your forks (I doubt it) or Yamaha installed way too much fork oil in your forks and you are achieving hydraulic lock due to too much fluid). I'd put an o-ring (requires fork disasssembly) or a zip tie on the fork and monitor travel.

Or two other possibilities;

He hasn't encountered terrain in a fashion that would compress the forks fully,

The suspension is not set up properly.
