Is there a quick way to tell the difference between the first and second generation of the Sargent Seat. I'm about to buy a set and want to makes sure I'm not getting old stock.

1st gen is slightly lower and rock hard, they then added about 1/4" of extra padding for the v2 seat, but it's still freckin hard, sent both of mine back.

I'm considering a new seat too. I love my Tenere, and I like the stock seat for off road use, but it's not the most cumfortable for long distances. I tried a Touratech seat and ended up sending it back. It was rock hard and in my opinion, more uncumfortable that the stock seat. Touratech was good about returning it though. I've been considering a RDL seat, but I don't want to give up my stock seat pan as I said earlier, I like the stock seat for off road use. I was also considering a Sargent before I read this post.

I have a gen one.
they sent it from Florida to my place in Calgary...to send it back was not really financially sound. It is a very hard seat, and no it doesn't break in after many sittings ::010::
I kept it, and fixted it by installing a airhawk r.

sorted.

Well, I received and installed my new Sargent seat yesterday. Certainly is a MUCH wider seating area for the passenger than stock but boy, I hope this thing softens up a bit after a few miles. It's Stiff!

Hmmmmmm....... Everything I've read has said the seat really doesn't soften up over time. Or certainly not fast enough for my liking. This thing is HARD. Significantly less comfortable than the one i had on my FJR.

I'm out of town the next couple of weekends but when I get back I'm taking it out with my wife. Unless something magical happens it's going back.

I have put about 10K miles on my Sergeant seat. Still rock hard. It is going in the very near future.

I don't have a Sargent seat but I do have a Corbin and it, too, is as hard as a rock but somehow works well for long distance. Must be the shape but it's super comfy like a bucket seat. And I've gone a couple thousand miles on it and no breaking in. I just think they're meant to be as hard as a rock so it's consistent rather than softening up over the duration of a ride.

I'm 6', 200lb.

I tend to agree with this. I have a Mustang on my VZ1600 and it is rock hard (after 7 years) but it is so comfy, the stock seat was a POS, soft for 10 mins then sciatica would kick in. I don't have an issue with the stock S10 seat, yet, but I have only done one 11 hour day so far. I was looking into other seats, but I'll keep reading the reviews here. It might be worthwhile for those with aftermarket seats to quote body weight?

I primarily bought the seat to improve my wife's comfort. The Sargent passenger seat is a lot wider than stock. The ride seat is a bit wider.

For reference, I'm 6'2" 235 and my wife is 5'7" 125.
