Is anyone up for a quick ride to the Kenosha Pass area? I'm thinking of hitting some of those easy trails just before the pass and over to Jefferson. If there's time hit the south side of Jefferson. Heck riding Nov 1st will be fun given it's so late. I'm sure it'll be chilly so lets do lunch inside.

I'm still itching to take my big blue beast up that difficult spot on the 811 trail........ I"m thinking I'd rather do this with other riders there just in case I need help picking up my bike! I'm sure we can make it up there.

Of course all this depends upon the weather but it's looking pretty good. Given it is chilly lets do a later start, 8:00 AM. If you're game we can run up Deer Creek Canyon, High Grade and over City View and jump onto 285. I'll be a fun paved warm up.

What is the 811 trail?
That's that hill in the woods with all the loose stuff that we had a difficult time with on the KLRs. The top has that nice open camp site with the steep stream crossing next to it.

Sorry, not interested in doing that part of the trail on this bike & tires, either up or down. Would be up for other not so intense trails though.

Hmmm, not that I'm familiar with the trail, but if 14kmtnman says he won't do it on his bike, must be pretty gnarly! I mean he'll do just about anything!

How about coming along for all the other trails and enjoy the view, laugh at me if I dump, take pics etc and help me lift the bike if I can't?.....
I intend to stop at the bottom and walk it up a bit to check the conditions before I try to go up it anyway.

I forgot to add meet at the Conoco on Morrison Rd at 8:00 ish.

Baseball & softball size rocks, on a steep hill while being loose, sitting on top of soft loose sandy gravel. There are a few football sized rocks tossed in for fun. I will go up the much easier north side & watch from there. ::017:: That way if you make it up, I will already be there ::003:: We could then take the easy way down. Sounds like a plan. See you at 8.

What he said. Having ridden with 14kmtnman, I know how tough/bad it must be. LOL Good luck, Low Drag...

There are plenty of really nice trails to ride before we hit this difficult section.

As I said, you guys can be entertained by me trying this trail section, cell phone cameras in hand. We did it on KLRs last year, it was always a challenge. I'm betting the S10 with its wide tires and horse power will allow me to maintain a lower speed. Like I said, come out and be entertained!

OK now that the little heathens have stopped coming to the door I can get my gear ready!

I'll see you around 8:00 tomorrow at the Conoco, I'll need to gas up as usual. I plan on stopping at the bottom of hill and walk it before I attempt it. I can meet you 1/2 way! If I don't think I can do it I'll exercise some good judgement. Once we're finished up on the 811 hill we can go where ever. I'm thinking that place south of Jefferson for lunch. I need to be back down out of the mountains by 2:00 ish to get to some chores I need to get to.

Later!

How was your guys ride? I did a quick check-out ride after putting my bike back together. Just went up Apex to Mammoth. Some snow on the backside of Mammoth on the way to Rollinsville. Couldn't see how far around the corner the snow went and what I did check, by walking on it. It was slick… So turned around earlier than I wanted.

Suspension works GREAT!!!! Freakin' soaks up wash board like its almost not there! Highly recommend this mod!

It was a very chilly start to the day. That trail I wanted to try...... I got 10 yards onto it and got stuck. Got moving again and made it another 75 yards or so. There was a ton of loose stuff on the steep sections. This is the first time I've had the S10's front tire sink into stuff. I turned around and got back to the bottom/trail intersection and walked up. I'm glad I stopped where I did.

Bottom line I feel shame! :'(

We headed out from there and got to do those fun water crossings, one was pretty deep. I had water up to my knees!
Since I had to get back to town early we headed back and got an early lunch on the way back. 14er took us on a cool detour.

It was chilly all day but great to be out Nov 1st. I'm looking forward to getting out when I can this winter, of course keeping it to the roads. I'm going to review my maps this morning to find some fun routes through Golden Gate Canyon Park. Later

The back side trail that I took to the top was full of baseball & softball size rocks too, similar to the front side. The hill was not as steep as the other side, but the rocks were plentiful & loose. When I came around the bottom corner & saw the trail heading up I almost turned around. But because I committed to be at the top when/if low drag got there, I continued on. I was thinking, this was going to be fun going down, not ???. As it turned out , it was not quite as bad as I thought it might be. It took a quite a bit of concentration going back down though. Loads of traction, a light bike, real good suspension & good eye/bike coordination would be needed to make it up, or a 4x4. A nap at the top wouldn't be out question once you made it to the top. :D The pictures are of the front side. The trail is much steeper & narrower than it looks. In spots, the rocky/sandy part was so soft, you just kind of sank in it. 1 looking up the trail, 2 looking down hill.
