Just got news that the Klondike River Lodge that is the gateway & 1st fuel-up for the Dempster Hwy in the Yukon,
Burnt to the ground  So until someone puts in a temp fuel station you will have to fill-up in Dawson City
and that means carrying MORE extra fuel in order to get to Eagle Plains
Trip plan accordingly & I will post more news as I hear it

Yep, it was on the radio. Done burnt down. It's another 25 or so miles into Dawson. I expect someone will rebuild, but not for a while. It gets nasty cold up there in the winter. Too bad. R

The news report said it was closed/empty for months. We were there in late July, did it close down for the winter or go out of business?

For the recent past they've closed in Sept
hopefully they can salvage the spring/summer season

This from another report:
The above-ground fuel tanks, which had been drained and were on the far side of the tire shed, were not touched.

The lodge had closed for the winter in September, as it has for the last several years.

The lodge has been in operation since the early 1970s.

Filling up at its station before beginning a trip on the Dempster Highway was advised on most travel websites, as the next gas station is at Eagle Plains, 360 kilometres up the road.

Good to know - I am making the trip this June.....
I had the trip penciled in too but Ouray got the vote, so maybe they'll have rebuilt by the time I get there. Next year

Did the Klondike River Lodge ever re-open? The gas station anyway? Just wondering if I'm going to need the extra gas to get to Eagle Plains in June this year. ;-)
