Good to hear from you, CR. I remember you saying you were gonna be gone for a while. Yes, looks like there will be a longer wait. Yamaha Canada has been very quiet on this, but apparently an official announcement is due early next week. I expect it to be the same. Well, I'm off to beddy bye. It's late for the old guy. Safe trip. R

You really do see the negative side of life, don't you? I thought you were already scared off by a potential buffeting issue that could take up to $300 to correct. I suspect Yamaha will give you your money back even if you did bail out 6 weeks before the earliest predicted delivery date. Good luck to you. Enjoy your wing. Doesn't seem like this bike was ever going to be a good match for the way your view the world. Adventure bikes are often most appreciated by optimist who see if they buy one more gizmo for the bike it will make them happier with their ride. Which usually turns into a flood of more gizmos, and few ever have regrets about doing it. Many, if not most end up with thousands of dollars added to the bike.

I'll wait. After reading Spklbuk/spkldoe's rest ride, it convinces me I was correct in the beginning. I wanted something comfortable for two, that could also go any reasonable place for its size. Didn't really want a full on touring bike or a sport tourer. After looking and looking, nothing else comes close for anywhere near the price. More often than not, my first idea was my best idea. I just have to slap myself from time to time and quit overthinking things.

Just allows me to save more so I can keep everything I have now. In some ways, but not the gratification end, next spring would be just fine.

As with you, my dealer called me and read the letter, also emailing it to me.

As much as I love the ST (without ever seeing or sitting on it), I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I'm going to visit the local stores and consider:

Tiger XC
GS Adventure
KTM Dakar

Each of which have deficiencies for what I really want (which is the ST)....either chain drive (XC, KTM) or price (GS)....on the plus side, I do have a bike. On the negative, don't know if the ST will be delayed again, and since my bike is promised on trade to the dealer....I don't want to ride it too much. On the positive side, I do like my current bike and waiting on the ST is the most cost-effective approach. Even if I don't get the ST until winter, I'm still riding something.

Decisions, decisions....

I'll be waiting it out, no worries! I sold all three of my street bikes last fall so I haven't been riding in a while. This little delay just gave me the perfect reason to dual sport my XR400. I've been collecting Tenere parts for the past bit and now I'm waiting on a nice shipment of DOT tires and other goodies for the XR!

I got a call from the dealer that I ordered my S10 last night, he offered to refund my deposit. I will wait for mine to come in. Luckily I haven't sold the Wing, KLR650 or KTM530 so I have plenty of two wheelers to ride.

My heart goes out to all the people in Japan that have been affected by the earthquake and tsunami.

It will give me additional time to figure out what accessories to put on it.

Well, on a positive note, those jumping ship will push the rest of us that ordered later...

It's a tough choice with all the 650+ cc Dual sports out there, between DL650s and up to the BMW 1200 GS it's a rough thing to prioritize and categorize what YOU want in a Dual Sport bike.. more road or more dirt, blah blah blah... it was so much easier to pic a Sport Tourer.. LOL

I was ready to get the Tiger NOW... but, the price ended up being a little more than the S10 and the Tiger had a chain drive, Tube Tires, No Centerstand and the front fender is way too close to the street tire, a touratech extension would be needed for knobbies.. The pluses were the display is better in my opinion - gear indicator, more bars for the fuel gauge, lighter weight - 100lbs.

Still thinking the S10 is the better deal for what I want it for...

As for the year model... I've never got a motorcycle in the year before that year model... I see the advantage if you plan on selling it... but I plan on riding mine.. So, I could care less what year is stamped on it, as long as it's new.

What lesson is that? That you have no understanding that a catastrophe of epic proportions might, just might, have had an impact on the delivery plan. Good grief, what an attitude. ::)

I'll be riding one of these while you're still sitting in your own little piss puddle of self pity. If your choices were between a Super Ten and a Gold Wing, you apparently didn't understand much about the bike anyway.

You will definitely get your money back if you want it back!

Why so negative? All of the Japanese manufacturers and a great deal of the US companies are going to be facing shortages from this disaster since so many of them source items from the Japanese.

Thanks buddy! I'm now in San Diego for a day or two. Will visit the USS Midway, which is something I have wanted to do since learning that it is now a museum. I served aboard it during the Viet Nam war in the mid-60's.

Agree with you Joe and glad to hear you are still hanging in there for the SuoerT. The only negative for me is I will not have it in time for CoSTOC in September. The FJR will do fine for that and any other rides I do this summer.

My dealer just sent me an email that shows my 'anticipated SHIP date' as November. I ordered mid-Feb.

If I thought there was another bike out there that was similar and a better value, I'd go for it, but I just don't see one. I still have a bike to ride so it's all good. I'll still end up getting a bike BEFORE it's model year so that's cool too.

Yamaha provided a firm date of November 30, 2011 for ALL deliveries. They would not have provided this firm date without a thoughtful plan of action in place. I am confident in the date and in Yamaha. I am actually happy, considering the circumstances, that they are not trying to rush things further and potentially sacrifice quality. I plan to keep this bike for a long time and I want it built right.

I would hope this is true, but I do think one has to consider the possibility that this is more of a "best estimate with current information" with some continued level of uncertainty. (Yamaha hasn't provided any information to lead us to believe the dates are now "firm".) And there is the continued possibility of further problems to develop in Japan. To be prudent, I think one has to consider the Nov date to be about as firm as the previous May date.

Of course, for many (perhaps most) of us, further delays during the winter months would be relatively inconsequential and maybe even desirable.

What you say has much merit. However, I think that they are in a much better position to make a pretty firm commitment, having had to make a major change once already. You would have to assume that they feel pretty confident making this statement. They know how many bikes they will have to make now, and have likely picked November at the "latest case scenario". I wouldn't be surprised to see them earlier than that unless some additional disaster befalls them. Let's hope not for many reasons. I can't see them putting themselves in that position without having investigated thorough and without feeling extremely confidant that they can produce what they promised. I'm likely toast for this year due to my location, but that is a hazard of where I live and not anyone's problem but mine. Hard cheese. I think they'll come through on schedule, if not before. That's my two cents. Uh, actually about 2.003 cents Canadian. Heh heh Finally !!! R

Talked to my dealer today and he was pretty bummed out. Bad enough that bikes are delayed but he was beaten up all day long yesterday by phone. Said two customers wanted both he and Yamaha to further compensate them for the delays. Basically, wanted their deposits back plus interest plus??? Told him I planned to be in for the long haul and keep his head up. As to dates, he has nothing other than the letter from Yamaha to go by. He is sending each of the PDP program customers a letter offering them a refund and will see what will happen then.

I got a call from my dealer today and he said I will be getting a letter from Yamaha. Yamaha told him that all Super Teneres will be delivered by November 30th. So that could just mean that my bike is still on schedule for August delivery it is just that anyone who ordered later will get their bikes by Nov. You all have to remember the last bikes to be ordered was supposedly March 31, so they bikes ordered in March would only make sense they would be delivered in Novmber.

I thought about it...there is nothing out there that matches the ST.

I looked around seriously, and anything I get will be settling: The bike I want is the ST....I'm staying in. Plus, my dealer is standing by his deal with me on trading-in my bike.

My dealer and I might do a short-term deal: He's working on taking in an '04 FJR and I might trade my NT in on that bike until the ST comes in, then do a trade again.

Plus interest? Sure, why not? Wonder what the interest is on five hundred bucks for six months? Pennies, I'm sure. Wish the bank would pay me interest on my mortgage escrow account that they sit on. :)) All you folks that opt out, go ahead. Moves me closer to the front of the line 8)

20valves,

"If your choices were between a Super Ten and a Gold Wing, you apparently didn't understand much about the bike anyway." If Ron wants to have a pity party, that's ok, but I really don't think he was/is confused by the difference between the two bikes. I know I'm not and in the recent past I had a GL1800, an FJR1300 and a DL1000. Got rid of the FJR1300 to make room. Got rid of the DL1000 to accomodate the new S10, whenever it arrives, if it does. In the meantime I have much more elbow room in the mancave :)) FYI, many GL1800s have done the trek up to Deadhorse and I wouldn't be afraid to take mine up there. 8)
