Thanks - good article with a lot of insight into Yamaha.

After reading that, I'm thinking we are all lucky they didn't just cancel the US 2012 Super Tenere.

Agreed they sure could have very easily and been justified in doing so. Not to mention keeping the price as is even with all the issues in the world market etc. This will be one awesome bike when it does come folks will be talking about it for sure.

As TierHawg wrote, they easily could have written off a low volume bike like this, so I too am glad they didn't.

It's definitely frustrating that there just is not a lot of info coming from any of the big Japanese manufacturers; car or motorcycle. But then, it's not much of a surprise for any bigger company. Early on, Boeing and Airbus said and speculated too much about production plans on their newest airplanes and both are paying painfully for it. Guess what Apple in California will say if you call about possible model changes just before you buy a new ipad or iphone? "Hello? Hello? Anybody on the line? bzzzzzz..." :-[

I don't think people truly comprehend what the potential return of the PDP deposits mean. It's Yamaha's giving customers a very rare opportunity to back out, so that people don't have to worry about warranty days ticking away while locked down due to snow or other potential negatives. In no way does the company have to give up sales that they've essentially already made. Yamaha may or may not do something more, but this offer to back out is them trying to do the right thing for their customers, hoping that the customers remember them in the future. I can think of both US and Italian motorcycle companies who have let their customers (I was one) hang until some major problems were resolved, so bravo to Yamaha. :)

For now, let's go ride and watch some hockey!

Very well said, and also dead-on-the-money true. Thanks.

And I'm in for the duration!

Sorry, but this is way too charitable to Yamaha. They're not doing us any big favor - in any kind of fairness, they had to do what they're doing, and if they didn't they would be absolutely skewered in the press and forums like this.

And as has been discussed in this and other threads, the vast majority of the deposits would have remained refundable (and will remain refundable right up to delivery) regardless of what Yamaha says, either by state law, by lack of a signed purchase contract that clearly spells out that a deposit is non-refundable, or by dealer policy in general. Yamaha's non-refund proclamation is a policy that they're enforcing with dealers but has no force of law with respect to customers. What governs refundability is your agreement with the dealer and most states set very high bars on what is required to hold a deposit on a vehicle - in fact, some states don't even allow non-refundable vehicle deposits.

Now certainly, Yamaha's May 31 backout deadline does present an easy way to get out without any tussle and let's the dealer off the hook with Yamaha.

Sorry, but I have seen other companies put it all on the customers and Yamaha did not. I think it was a stand up thing they did. 8)

I think you're exactly right, Combo... And I totally agree. Of course, I was a dealer for a long time, for multiple lines, so I have seen how different companies treat their customers (and dealers).

But then, with some, as we both know, the glass is often half empty rather than half full. ;)

I got my letter from Yamaha the other day. Deliveries complete by November 30. Nary a word aboot beginning to ship. A little frustrating, but again, they have a shite load of heartache over yonder.

So all this spare time on these new to me forums turned up this dude Sasquatch in Idaho. So I emailed and queried and ordered some Race tech fork springs for my Feej and rebuilt the forks. Then I called him up and asked him to order a shock spring and sent him my shock for rebuild. Took my first ride in 34 years the other day on a bike actually set up for my weight. cool...

Dude rocks, Suspension By Sasquatch. Specializes in Adventure Tour suspension. Did me up fine on the Feej, fair price, good and responsive service. What else ya need. When my Super Ten does get here, it's getting forked and shocked right off. And Sasquatch is getting the parts order and shock work.

But dang, I would like even a sniff of a potential start to deliver date!

Sasquatch started out moding his KLR suspension a few years back. Been aware of him since he bought his 2001 Tiger. A good guy but I trust my suspension to Rick at Cogent Dynamics, not that the Tenere needs any work. Probably should be posted elsewhere in this forum.

+1 on Cogent, they did a kick ass job on my DR650 shock, even added compression damping adjustment. And who said pigs can't fly :)
