73rd anual Daytona bikeweek is March 7 through 16 this year. The event is two weekends long now. Most locals welcome the visitors who bring lots of money into the economy here.
I know its been a rough winter for many of you but here in central Florida this weekend was in the low 70's and great for riding to Daytona to see some of the bikweek festivities.
My 2012 is right at 10k miles and I'm sporting new K60 tires for the ride.
Riding up Rt.1 its easy to join in a group of other riders and form a large pack. These pics are from the Main street side of town. There is also lots to see at the speedway and i will be heading there next weekend.
This is a Harley dominated event but you'll see a little of everything. They even have an Elio prototype there you can sit in. They are taking pre-orders for $100 down. There is a mock up engine on display but they are not offering to open the hood on the prototype. Its a great made in America concept and I hope they actually make it but their goals seem lofty ($6800, 84mpg, anticipated 5 star crash rating).
Many people trailer their bikes from all over the US and Canada. They haven't ridden in months and it shows. It always amazes me how some riders are either unaware or unwilling to ride in a staggered formation, isn't that part of the basic motorcycle license test? Its just a little bit more than irritating to me. Worst still are the extra loud straight pipes... this is just so over the top, I'm glad you are having fun but in my opinion you look and sound like an idiot.
But like all things, you take the good with the bad. Yes there is plenty of both here. Come check it out and enjoy yourself safely.
