Ive got a group of friends riding out to Daytona this Sunday 3/10. Any one want to meet up in Titusville and head north on US1?
Probably stop for breakfast at the Coffee Shope in Tville or Goodrich in Oakhill.
I'm also riding there Friday 3/15 with a different group and have tickets for the Daytona 200 on Sunday.
Hope to see some other ST's at Bikeweek.

+1 Why anyone would want to endure that madness is beyond me, but hope you enjoy it.

I was behind a guy on a Harley in St. Augustine yesterday. He almost lost it twice leaving a parking lot. He turned to go south on I95 as we were heading north, his wife (I'm assuming) was following him in a PT Cruiser with giant, " Look Twice" stickers on the back. It was obvious by the way he was handling his machine he was a new ( or really not accomplished) rider. My wife even said, " he looks like I did when I first started riding".

I agreed with her assessment, and said, "Yep. And at that stage I would never have let you near an Interstate highway, and sure as hell wouldn't put you into a traffic nightmare like Daytona during Bikeweek."

I have absolutely nothing against new riders, we all went through that stage at one point, but foolish riders I can't tolerate. It's simply begging to become a statistic.

Stay safe out there!

Well, maybe if you're one of the .000001 percent of the people that realize the ONLY reason there is a bike week is because of the races that have been run there for nearly 80 years, (where, in the span of one week, you can see the best racers this country has to offer in GNCC, Supercross, Enduro, Flat Track, and Roadracing) you would want to endure it. As for the rest of the Halloween party, I agree with you.

The races would be great, and I'd love to see them, but I avoid the whole area like the plague this week. I'm glad it happens for the tourist dollar$ and such, but that whole show is NOT for me. I quite like being alone when I'm riding...

Guess I'm beating a dead horse, but the "show" YOU'RE talking about, is NOT at the racetrack. Maybe if more motorcycle enthusiasts supported the races instead of staying away in protest, the crusier losers would figure out why there is a Bike Week in the first place :)

I completely understand where you're coming from, Scott, and I'm not protesting anything - I just don't think the cruiser set is gonna vacate so true enthusiasts can enjoy the racing...

It sucks but Bikeweek is promoted to the lowest common denominator of the riding world. Skanks in leather bikinis (no thanks), hundreds-of-thousands of drunk weekend warriors on two wheels (no thanks), hoards of scumbags that fancy themselves one-percenters this week (no thanks). No race is worth risking property or life over...

I understand your point creggur. I think anyone with extensive motorcycle experience can agree that "most" crusiers and crusier riders are truly the lowest rung on the ladder when it comes to both the motorcycle's ability and thier riding ability. I don't think most of them want to be like that, I just don't think they know better. If I can convert just one at a time, I'm doing my part.

A noble perspective, no doubt. I've met cruiser riders who are what I would consider "real" riders. They have skills, practice true roadcraft, and put up some serious miles. Most, however, just polish the chrome and putt around in gangs doing everything wrong...

Sad really, as they never experience the true joy of being on two wheels...

Creggur, I was in Holly Hill for a Funeral Service of an old friend who just passed, if I didn't have to have been there, I wouldn't have. On day one of Bike Week, driving home from the church, I saw a HD crunched on its side on US 1 in Ormond beach, a custom chopper rider dump his bike in the gas station parking lot doing a slow turn, a buzzed rider dump his HD in an intersection near my house in Flagler County, and today coming out of Bunnell I saw a HD rider cut off a pick-up truck on US 1 because he didn't look in his blind spot. How he didn't get crushed is only an act of the Almighty.

Scott, sadly, the races have been overshadowed by the lowest common denominator bar hopping leather clad idiots. I enjoy the AMA SX and the 200, but navigating the idiots is not worth it. To the point of everyone has to learn, well . . . I would love to learn to race in MotoGP, but I am not about to buy a race bike and show up at the track with no training, let alone guzzling down a beer before hand. I would say appropriateness

You guyz! you are missing out on the fun side of things there. There is plenty good along with the bad!
Try to have fun and fun will find you. Look for the head shaking bad and you'll be surrounded by it.
I'm going to the races there Saturday.

Unfortunately one of own was hit in a parking lot while visiting Bike Week from Illinois. He is OK, but his bike apparently is not.

Right on Kenny. There is a zoo of pose and polish idiots but there is also a lot of good things to see. As in a lot of things, 90% crap but still the 10% is good. I like to check out the new bikes in person and even ride any that are interesting. Also spent some time at the Givi and Twisted Throttle tents and was able to try a few things directly on my bike before buying.
I stay away from the main street and downtown areas but the displays at the track and the races are still good. And for us Florida riders, a nice ride from almost anywhere in the state. ::001::
