That looks great. I have the same dash shelf, and struggled with the thought of mounting my Oxford controller there. In the end, I mounted it on the left side of the bars.

I'm in process, saw idea in an earlier post.

By the way, plasti-dip makes template making easy. Coated it first, lay bracket on and cut out plasti-dip.

It's a good thing to have if you run a lot of electrical accessories. The ST has a beefy electrical system with plenty of reserve charging capacity, so it's usually not as critical on these bikes, as it would be on a bike with a lesser system.

Sorry no picture, but this is what I have on my bikes, including my S10. Easy to mount anywhere (on mine, the LED light is in one of the spots on my HDB top clamp, it's visible day and night but not excessively bright).

Why? Well, several reasons, but here are some real world things. I ride endurance rallies. These can be anything from 12 hours to 11 days. During 24-36 hour rallies I ride all night. It's not uncommon to be using heated gear and aux lights at the same time in these conditions, even in summer at high altitudes or with rain. That can place a larger draw on the system than it can support, which will draw the battery down to the point where when you stop, it won't have enough juice to re-start. Now, in my case, I've figured out what the overhead available was and have chosen lights to stay under that so it's not a problem, but it is handy to know what's 'normal' and what's not, so you discover if there is a problem earlier, rather than later. With almost 90k on the bike, eventually something will go wrong. :D

The other day, just riding along, I noticed my voltage was higher than my 'normal'. The reason was because one headlight bulb was out. Because I know normal, and have experienced this before, I recognized right away that only one headlight was out and it wasn't a big deal. I swapped it out at the next stop with a spare bulb I carry. Problem identified, problem solved.

I fabbed up a simple bracket off my GPS mount and have a Datel voltmeter mounted there, on the right side. The GPS screen washes out the pic, so here are key on and key off pics. Not that sexy, but works for me. ;D

A voltmeter is handy for making sure your charging system is working well and verifying sure you're not overdrawing with your electrical accessories. The Vstrom comes with one stock, Yamaha is slacking....
Which V-Strom has a stock voltage meter? I had a 2012 DL650, and there wasn't one on my bike.

I don't know if the Super Tenere suffers from this problem, but a big reason to have a voltage meter on a V-Strom wasn't so much about overdrawing the electrical system as it was to provide an early warning that your stator was about to fry. Early burned out stators are one of those quaint quirks that V-Strom owners contend with. The voltage meter gave enough warning that you could at least stop somewhere and try and replace the stator before you found yourself dead on the side of the road.

I'm familiar with the Strom issue and we are about to do the fuel screen mod on the 1000.
Don't think I've heard of a Tenere stator going bad and a quick search found nothing.

That's good to hear, Checkswrecks; an OEM stator on a V-Strom was pretty salty, and I'm guessing it's worse on an S10.

I don't have one but it Looks like a pretty cool monitor. Most people complain about not being able to see it at night and that it needs to be reset periodically.

I just installed a cheap voltmeter display from eBay. LED display and they say it's water proof. Hooked it up to a switched power source and seems to be accurate according to my digital volt meter.

I finally got my dash installed over the 4th. I have an extra switch, one momentary switch for GDO, driving lights, DVM, dual USB port and Heatroller. Here's a pic:
