Dash problem?

So, I had an interesting problem this morning. On my 2015 ES, the right side menus disappeared. Pulling the trigger switch on the left bar changed pages normally and the top part showed. For example on the heated grip page, the image of the grip appeared above, but the rest of the page was blank. Same thing with the suspension page. Image of the shock appeared but the images of the helmets and luggage were blank. I could not see what setting the suspension was on, nor could I perform any adjustments.

A mile or so down road I noticed, at the very bottom of each page that the trip mileage was counting up from 0. Then a few miles more down the road, everything reappeared as normal!

The bike sat outside my motel room all night in the low 40s, but it was under a cover.

Has anyone else experienced this behavior and figured out what caused it?

I have had mine turn black from the sun hitting it and it overheating, and then eventually it "coming back to life" when it cools down, but never what has happened to you.

Not sure if this is related but when i reach the low fuel warning on mine it over rides that side of the clocks. Could the low fuel sensor or whatever it would be causing a problem.

Same, only happened once when baking in the Atlanta sun. Hasn’t happened since.

Thanks for the replies, the display didn’t darken or dim at all, what appeared at the top of each page looked normal. I am familiar with the low fuel page that pops up. In that case you can still scroll back to the other pages. Also, I was not low on fuel at the time. If the low fuel sensor was the culprit, I think it would have added that page? There was no “extra” page present at all.

I’m wondering if it’s some kind of low temperature affect? I’ve left the bike in similarly cool temps before without this happening however.

If that was the case would not both displays do the same thing ?

I've been hesitant to chime in since it hasn't happened on my S10, but I had this issue in my old Audi. It had an LCD screen that worked 90% of the time but the first time I left it parked outside overnight in winter the screen freaked out. Only partial data showed up until it all warmed up. Backlight worked fine, just no data. It got down into the 30s that night.
The tech that replaced it noticed that the ribbon looked like it was pinched pretty bad in one area. I have to assume it had a dirty open that made itself known when the temps dropped.
Not sure it's applicable but thought I'd share in case it helps with the trouble shooting process.

Thanks for these comments. This makes me think there was indeed some kind of low temperature affect. Why it affected only the right side display I've no idea. I notice one side is slightly darker than the other on all the Super Teneres I've looked at so maybe there something fundamentally different to they're made or how they work? I think I will investigate the harness connection for the dash cluster (not sure if it's behind the cluster or somewhere else on the bike) and make sure it's tight and clean. I'd been riding some washboard dirt roads the day before this happened so perhaps something loosened up?

That is definitely a possibility. Can't hurt to check. Not sure if you plan to open it up, but that's where you'll find the ribbon that connects to the board. You'll probably find that the two LCDs are fed off seperate ribbons, such is why one works and the other doesn't. Washboard roads are brutal on everything... unless you go fast enough to glide over it, but that's a whole other topic.

Try unhooking the battery for a few. May reset, If my memory serves me you have a lithium battery. That might be trowing it off. Run a voltage meter both running and off. See if anything is off. Set it in the sun. Heat and drying may help.

Yes I do have a lithium battery, 3+ years now. Anyway, the bike is still behaving normally today, so it might be difficult to confirm I found or fixed anything. I have a voltage meter installed and it was reading 14.3V the whole time, which is the typical reading, so nothing odd there it seems.

I wasn’t planning to open the instrument pod, but rather to check any external connectors.

I experienced the same issue yesterday, except during mild drizzly, windy weather. Left out for 20mins but not under cover.

Happened again today. RH display disappeared apart from top & bottom. Low on fuel, could that be a reason? Also later on the ride condensation under the front clear panel. Now doubting how long the LCD dash display will last.

Are we talking about when the screen goes to the "reserve fuel" screen, or condensation under the glass? 'Cuz everybody knows that the mileage counts up when you hit reserve, right?

My problem was that all the screens blanked out. Also had enough gas in the tank that the low fuel screen should not have appeared. In my case I did not observe any condensation and so far this problem has not recurred.

Ok, it was just the RH screen. Had condensation last year in, happened in cold weather by the sea. Hasn’t happened again until today, temperature wasn’t that low around 10c & in clear sunny weather. Wondering if this is a thing with S10 LCD dash screens.
