Unless I remove this consider that I let my guard down and ignored all the rules I make my family abide by to prevent security breaches. I run a home VPN and a firewall server. But simple phone protocol burned me.

** DON"T ASSUME fellow members are for real. I got a message to send BenVain11@gmail a message from Daniel1. He appeared to be alerting me that this guy was parting out a tenere. I fell in the hole.

200 bucks doesn't move my needle and it only reinforced the reason to doubt every aspect of an online transaction and possibly save a much larger theft!.
He asked me for my sending Zelle email and I responded... you don't need that. I run a VPN at home as well as adguard and a firewall device. He has a google number 424.256.9812 the Zelle account I sent to was Aaron Pettit I should have caught that also since no match. We have to tighten up our online security. I think I m ok now but now need a password sweep PIA!!!! Let's find this guy. As soon as I see a tracking number which wont happen I l

Added lesson learned My bank contacted me and put a hold on it when "Ben" called me and needed more coin for shipping. I said to release the funds and the money wasn't needle moving. I was told that using Zelle is not good for purchases. It is for family and friends not businesses. There is no recourse in a transaction dispute. "Use paypal etc.... just passing this on.

Advice to not use Zelle has been on the local news here several times, I have never used Zelle .

I have used Paypal thousands of times trouble free but definitely don’t use paypal friends and family because you loose all protection when using friends and family .

. . . . He has a google number 424.256.9812 . . . .
When I Google that number, it comes up with a taxidermy site. The second listing is from the Model T Ford Club of America. They list the number as a scammer. And of course, the obligatory "women seeking men".

You're not alone. A guy on a non Super T Facebook group had something to give away because his son had died and I bit on it. Only wanted $60 to cover shipping, but as soon as that was sent (Zelle) he apologized for a misunderstanding and said it would be $160. When I balked, he offered to split the difference (lol), but I never heard from him again after I said I appreciated it, but just return my $60 and give the item to another person in need. I, too, thought I was smarter than that.

Out of curiosity I looked it up, and it advertises itself as "a fast, safe and easy way to send money to friends, family, and people you trust". Which pretty much negates using it for online transactions on forums where you only know the other person as "milecruncher88'.

And after reading up a little more on the various Zelle scams, and Zelle's response to the scams, there's no way I'd ever substitute Zelle for PayPal for online business transactions with strangers.

It seems like it can be a useful service, but there should be big neon flashing lights to draw your attention to the " people you trust" part of the sales pitch, along with the additional phrase " because we aren't helping if you get scammed'.

The other Flag for "Daniel1" was he created his ID on Friday just hours before starting his scam. Further he had not responded to our "Security Requests".

A couple of points about this

1. Robots beat the CAPTCHA and auto e-mail response but cannot (yet) respond to a request for information
2. SCAMMERS seldom respond to the member introduction request and often lie about their location and themselves on the member introduction.

By adding the double security request, Stefan, CW and I have eliminated most of these clowns but not all. Still, we do get some leakers.

IF you have a member who is brand new and has not completed the security requests, UNDER NO CONDITIONS ENGAGE on $$ issues
By tapping on their name you can see when they joined the forum, their location and total number of posts, one of which should be in "Member Introductions"

IF YOU HAVE ANY DOUBTS, STAY AWAY FROM THEM AND LET THE MODERATORS KNOW! We will take another look at them. A high percentage of the concerns we receive from Members are justified, so do not hesitate.

Some other RED FLAGS

1. they have a "friend" at a different e-mail who is "parting out a bike"
2. Respond to a "Wanted" with the exact thing you are looking for....often (not always) from someone at a different e-mail
3. Do not have any posts on other topics
4. seems to lack general knowledge about Super T's

Paranoia is a survival trait...especially where the internet is involved

What does a scammer look like? Well this is one. Someone started a conversation with me because I have a “wanted” post. Which is normal, but not the message itself. Screenshot below. Your spider sense shouldn’t be tingling, it should be screaming! One of my fellow colleagues already nuked him, unaware of the message I received from him. So there were other markers as well.

Sometimes English is not their primary language, so grammar could be off a little. On the other hand . . . . English is my primary language. . . . and my grammar can be a little off.
