Just coming back from a wonderful riding morning.
I was with a friend and his Super T (twin from mine). Like me he's also an ex-GSA owner.
We decided Cycle World is right ::012:: ::012::

Here is my friend.

And me

Do you think we can do this with a GS?? :rofl

Wow JaimeV, those pictures are amazing. Good to see you pushing the limits of the bike. I would have turned around long before that section.
You my friend are a steely eyed motorcycle man, thank's for posting. ::012::

The Guzzi comments are hilarious. Basically, it didn't suck as much as we thought it would. He even compared it to a tractor.

I rode one back to back with the Yamaha (Dealer Demo's) and had the Mrs not liked it on the back I would have seriously considered one, on the road it was a fantastic bike with sweet handling, punchy engine and some character (Like a bit of top end rush)

I really could not knock it, apart from the slight worry of getting a friday afternoon special, rumours the finish is not so good and dealer support (or lack of in the UK) otherwise IMO it is in the same ballpark as the GS and Tenere, a damn fine do-it-all roadbike.

I would consider the Guzzi. But then, I don't drink Kool-Aid. >:D ::)

Guzzi makes a solid bike, very refined, but not much of a dealer network. I think they're underrated.

I've had Guzzis for years and I love them. Believe it of not, you can find a Ural dealer a lot easier than a Guzzi dealer. Let alone finding one that truly knows the bikes...

Its not an off-road bike though, just look at that road Jamie took his pictures on, almost perfect tarmac, just needs the odd pothole filled in, anyone could take an R1 or Goldwing along it ;)

Now here is a sample of 1 for you.

On a ride today, parked the S10, crowd started forming, Guzzi owner all over me about the YAMAHA. Turns out he traded a 660 Ten on a Grisso (Yes weird). Now he wants an S10. Guzzi has spent lotsa time in the dealer with problems. Told him that was probably an aberration. Sorry to hear that. He was Italian. He didn't believe a word I said. :D

I was being honest as well. ::024::

Yeah, but better a bike with a boxer engine to enlarge the pothole sides >:D

About Guzzi. I don’t know in other countries but in Spain if you buy one you must be prepared to have it for life: nobody is going to buy it to you once is used. It’s got a awful reputation of failures and bad dealers assistance.

As some of you know, I sold a 2010 Multi12 standard to keep my S10 for the Alaska trip. Bottom line, a sound decision, but I do miss the Mutely. It was great power, and suspension, very fun to ride. Long trip killer, was the lack of dealers or people that can work on a Duc going on a long trip. Also 200 mile tank range hurt my confidence. Turns out that would have been doable on trip to Alaska.

Then of course the great electronics on the S10, UBS/ABS and TC are superb. My Mutely was without ABS, so no comparison there. The DTC was very intrusive when it kicked in, and you all know the S10 is almost transparent.

Had a conversation with a UK journo who explained he could not consider the bike for off-road as it is too expensive and who would spend £12k on a bike and risk dropping it

To a degree I do agree, I would not want to drop my bike and would not go further than a simple trail / across a field, I most certainly would not try to follow Jamie, but that's my decision.

Would be fair comments other than these Journo's will bang on about how great the latest S1000RR is as a track bike, so dropping a £12k bike at a few mile an hour on mud, with a bike designed for a bit of this that most likely will suffer nothing worse than a small mark on the bar ends is a disaster.....

.... But throwing a £12k S1000RR end over and at 100+mph on a track day is not a concern  At the least your gonna stuff £1500 of bodywork, and maybe a £700 exhaust, add in the levers etc and I doubt a low speed tumble would be under £2k.

Rasher - Maybe send your UK Journo contact a link to these pictures - Definitely could not do that with a GS, just because of the cylinders sticking out if not for any other reason.
Jamie, those are great pictures.

I know this are not the ideal bikes to do this type of riding but we are a bunch of masochist idiots enjoying paying big bills to repair all the damage…. ::010:: (sarcastic)

I’m totally agree with you, this journalist has no idea… ::002::
We are 12 guys doing hard off road regularly with GS, KTM and now S10. Logically we fall sometimes but we never have big damages as if we where on road: few scratches, a broken lever, a bend crash bar… nothing we can’t repair ourselves.
Of course our bikes are not clean and shiny as the ones from people who don’t ride in the dirt but who care?. Bike is to enjoy, not to cry if it lies on the floor.
Once a year I use to dismantle the bike, clean it, paint it and it looks new again. ::008::

Nice to always see the good write ups on the Super ten... There is always gonna be that one who doesn't have a lick of sense and will never like anything.... ::022::
