Thanks for all your replies. Looks like most have the same experience as me, the custom plugs don't knock out as much noise and are uncomfortable for extended periods. They work for a few, but don't work for most. With that, I just placed another order for my favorites, the foam EAR Soft FX. Best price I found was $30.82 with tax and delivery for 200.

Worked in a Steel Plant (Pipe Making) for the last 12 years. Extremely noisey. Wore double hearing protection. That is muffs plus foam plugs. Awhile back the company sprung for molded ear plugs. While wearing only the new molded ones during a 12 hour nite shift, I ended up yawning right next to an intercom speaker when someone made an announcement. When you yawn your ear canel opens up but the molded plugs don't. The noise knocked me to the ground. I've had tinnitus in my left ear ever since. (Thats constant ringing). Its lifetime. Never heals. So do wear plugs of some kind while riding. I've tried all types of plugs. Got the new Hereos that are being raved about but only got to try them once before winter set in and it wasn't a good experience. Will try them again in the spring. The best I've found over the years are the 3M foam ones. Besides installing them properly the secret is to use a new pair every time you take them out. I buy 200 pair at a time. The reason is once they have been rolled and expanded once they loose their ability to expand as tightly a second or third or fourth time. This is the only thing that allows me to continue riding. Tinnitus happens easily once you reach 60 years old. During your lifetime, your ears can only take so many loud bangs. Then it happens. Its like you are only allowed 5000 loud bangs, then RING. Welcome to the club. Don't think for a minute, it won't happen to you. Any kind of protection is better than nothing. Prolong it as long as possible. WEAR PLUGS!

Here is what we used when I was flying for the Army, they are called CEPs, and they have foam tips: http://www.cep-usa.com/cep/special-applications. Our unit had custom hearing aid style inserts but the foam was quieter and more comfortable. These would be great on the moto because you could plug into some music and keep the volume super low. They were made in Alabama when I picked mine up, not sure about the country of origin now. Could be a good option for people that like tunes.

That was a really informative video, thanks for posting.

I use the HEAROS brand earplugs, this after trying lots of other ones. HEAROS are super soft and really comfortable.

I use Green Leopards .... they're great on the range and I use them in my crash helmet. These are the silicon jobs custom moulded. They have pressure relief valves incorporated. These are better than my mil spec kit.
