in this pic there is an extra tube that looks like it is clamped to the upper tube near the headlights.
is part of the oem crashbar set??

You're not delusional, there is a bar there. ;)

But for the life of me I can't recall if that's a factory item or one of the euro-sourced aftermarket items, like from Hepco Becker - they have something similar, so maybe its an older version?

i suppose it could be a euro add on version. i do not see those bars shown in the oem bar kit for the states.

No, the oem crash bars do not have upper side protection as sold by Yamaha. I just checked the Yamaha web site to verify that no new changes had been made. I don't know off hand who made that add on bar or exactly where it bolts to at the rear. Possibly the hole in the frame, or just clamps on the frame at the rear, under the tank.

Where did you get the picture?

i borrowed the pic from advrider. i think it's bolted to the frame where the (2) holes are out in the open just under the tank where the seat joins in.
