I am a new Tenere owner as of Oct. 2013, and in North Dakota, we do not ride much until April. So I am looking to outfit the bike soon with stuff. First item I need info on is crash bars. It seems to me that Givi has best price and Altrider has a very good alternative. Any feedback on either of these models would be appreciated. I do not expect to do any extensive off road riding, but the occasional gravel or dirt road. Thanks for your help.

I am also looking to buy side bags, a better windshield, and a skid plate soon. Hence any suggestions for these items is also appreciated. Thanks again. Keith

Welcome on, Keith. I hear you about the April riding stuff. Same here. I'm looking at 3 feet of snow and some serious cold. Hard cheese for us. By the way, would you please post under Member Intros so the Forum crew will pick up that you're a new member. Some may miss it otherwise.

Lots to choose from and all pretty good I figure. I have AltRider crash bars, a National Cycle windshield and Micatech panniers. All very good stuff. Good luck in your farkling, and ::004:: to the Forum. R ::022::

If you can find the time. Do some searches on this forum. There is a wealth of information. Including one that has may mod's on it.

Try the modification's forum for starters. One of the links there is a modifications database.

If you are looking at skid plates, take a look at this link: http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=4999.0

Do some searches on side bags, many choices. Ranging from really nice aluminum ones to plastic ones.

Have fun farkling.

Hey Keith, Welcome to the Forum. I just picked up my Tenere last Friday at U Motors. I can't wait till April to ride the new bike so I will be hauling it to Texas in three weeks to explore the hill country with some friends.

I have never had this type of bike before and was not quite ready for the reality of how much it would cost to outfit this thing. I've never done anything to my past bikes other than frame sliders, Throttle lock, and taller windshields. I think I've spent over $3000.00 this week on heated grips, auxiliary lighting, lighting mounts, lighting harness, crash bars, skid plate, Saddle bags, top bags and liners for all, Throttle lock, and a GPS mount. This thing is a money pit and I haven’t even bought a larger windshield for it yet!

Send me a message if you want to go for a ride sometime this summer. I work just a few minutes from your place. Call 911 if your house is on fire and I’ll come over to visit. ???

Hey Keith.

If your only planning to do limited gravel road riding every once in awhile, you might consider saving your money on crash bars. The stock engine guards do a pretty good job at protecting the bike for the minor get off. I dumped my bike on a forest service road awhile back doing about 25 mph. Although the left engine guard cracked, it save the rest of the bike. Needless to say, I was impressed. Replacing the stock guard cost me about $30. Since then I've moved on and upgraded to Givi crash bars as I plan to ride far more dirt than the occasional gravel road. Good luck and enjoy your new ride.

Keith my accessories should be in next week if you want to take a look at anything in person let me know.

SW Motech crash bars
SW Motech GPS mount
(Yamaha) Piaa LP 530 driving lamps and under headlight mount
Yamaha heated grips
Yamaha half cover
Yamaha top case and liner
Yamaha saddle bags and liner I had my heart set on Jesse bags but I haven't heard many complaints about the yamaha bags. I went with the Yamaha boxes since U Motors has been very good to me lately and wanted to pay them back. The size of the Jesse bags spooked me also.
Yamaha Skid plate Sounds like I made a mistake here since nobody seems to like them. I don't think I'll be bouncing this bike off logs and rocks so I might be fine with them.

Next on the list is a taller windshield.

Ray, the Givi bars are a $180 plus shipping..
Had them previously on my v-strom, and they paid for every bit of it. Yes the stock plastics do a good job, but for that kind of money, I would not compromise a $14000 bike

Its just a matter of preference and available finances. I like the Givi's as well and also had them on my Strom. I guess I'm more of a minimalist in a way. If I don't really need a piece of gear, I'm not gonna buy it.

It depends and what you are looking to do with the bike. Casual riding? Off-roading in dirt? Cross-country trips? Any big rocks in your plans?
Altrider bars are tip top. Hebco & becker skid plate any day. Tortured them, still alive.
Unless rumbux updated their skidplate to cover that pipe I mentioned last year to the rumbux guy on this forum, I'd use caution where your path lies through basketball size rocks.
