Crash Bars?

Hello all, the next purchase I plan on making is going to be a set of crash bars.. Does anyone have any experience with the Givi crash bars? I've been dead set on the Altrider crash bars until I saw the Givi's with similar construction and 100 dollars cheaper. Any other suggestions?

You might want to do some searches on the forum here. It's a great price point, but I think you get what you pay for. That may be enough for your needs, or not, but that's for you to decide.

I had both the ALTrider and Givi bars and it depends on the type of riding you will be doing. I dropped the bike from a stand still and both held up very well. But if I were riding in the narly stuff, I would use the ALTriders. I think they are better built for that. YMMV

I have the Givi 's and I ride the rough stuff. Dropped on em a couple dozen times, other than some cosmetic scuffs no damage. All the drops have been slow speed get offs less than 10 mph. My bash plate is the worst for wear.

Altrider are stainless steel, so if you scratch them, they won't begin to rust. Givi's are steel.. I have the Altrider.. easy to install and solid protection.

A friend of mine has a set of Givi's on a Tiger 1050, and they look like good quality, but I'm still tempted to spend a little more cash and go with the Altrider ones.. And I'm probably going to get their skidplate too.

They make good stuff, only problem is they are very proud of it.

Do the Altriders have clearance when removing the side panels?

They have clearance on the right side, but I had to remove the left side to get to the radiator.

I don't have any experience dropping my bike , but my understanding is givi bars get bent fairly easy. you get what you paid for.

My bike took a tumble off the bike jack in the garage. This is HIGHER than the bike would normally be since the wheels were 4-6" off the ground. It landed on my soldi concrete floor. landed on the RIGHT Givi bar. Damage?

I can remove the radiator side cover with the Altrider bars in place. It is a bit tight, but easily doable. To protect the side covers (either side) I put a thin piece of packing foam between the side covers and the bars while I slide them on & off.

I notice all you guys from the states raving over Altrider crash bars but where can I get them in England?

Buy whatever you want for the bike. Its a $15,000 bike so $200 or $300 for anything to protect it isnt bad. Get what you want and what will protect to the legel of riding you want to do.

That's how I justify the extra cash for the Altrider bars.. I just dropped a hefty amount of cash, might as well protect my investment as best as possible.

My option was a "hand made" crash bar. The work was did for a friend (rider to) and I think the result was very satisfactory. When I decided to make my own crash bar was because in that moment (October 2010) I had not many options because was a new model or some models was very expensive or difficult to buy here in Argentina, then option was check some models, think a bit and go to do
If you have a friend who works welding you can decide for a to buy a industrialized crash bars or make your "own" crash bar.
My crash bar have enough space to take off both lateral plastic covers. The trouble " motorcycle is fat as her owner" :) but is not a big problem. Protect up side and down side and is useful to put on extra lamps too
When I designed the crash bars I think to don´t put nothing in front air entry to the radiator to don´t chang air flow and the other side to don´t interrupt flow to the electric dissipate at the right side. Now I´m thinking to put another point of support to the plate in the midle (the plate who has 4 bolts) over the pipes exhausts
