I'm going to be with a small group staying in Gunnison week after next for 4-5 days. I have a question about making a loop from Gunnison to Poncha Springs, North up 24 and then taking 82 over Independence Pass on through Aspen, down 133 to 92 and back to Gunnison. Is it better to ride a clockwise loop or a counter clockwise loop or does it make much difference?

Also we're going to take a ride down to Durango and back one day, a trip up to Pikes Peak and back another day and a loop through Saguache to South Fork to Lake City and back to Gunnison.

That will about take care of the four days we have to ride. Does anyone have any suggestions for any day rides that we should substitute in place of these rides? The rest of the gang are riding cruisers so we have to stay on the hard pan.

I will be in the area at that time as well. I plan on leaving the 28th. I don't think the direction matters too much. It's beautiful any way you look at it.

Highways 149 and 114 are nice. You could piece together a circular route to include them somehow. There will always be more roads to ride......that's why I keep going back.

114 & 149 will be included on our Lake City loop. Looking foreword to getting a pizza at Poker Alice's place. We'll be staying at the Rodeway Inn in Gunnison all week.

I did that same trip just a few years ago, dont remember the name of the mom and pop motel where we stayed for 4 days but it was just west of town.
The ride along 92 on the north side of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison is one of my favorites, both for the scenery and the road itself.
Great week of riding, have fun.

Probably the same place. It's a Roadway Inn and when I stayed there 4 years ago there was a Swedish couple running it. It had a Mexican restaurant next door.

Riding 92 is on our list, great scenery.
