DATES:
JULY 25th - 29th

I will be arriving on Thursday July 25th in the afternoon to set up Camp.
I have reserved three sites (#'s 10, 11, and 12) for four nights. I do not yet know which site I will be staying at.

Rides will be posted up for:
Friday July 26th
Saturday July 27th
Sunday July 28th
I will post these up in this thread shortly

I will be packing-up Camp on Monday July 29th and heading back Home.

COST:
This is not a Sponsored-Event
The cost of the Campsites was paid by me, out of my own pocket.
Each Site is $25 per night.
All I ask is that whoever camps the night, please pitch in the cost of that Site (divided up by however many people are camped in that site)

Everyone will be responsible for their own FUEL, FOOD and whatever their BEVERAGES of choice are, aside from drinking-water. Maybe pitch-in for Ice and Firewood as needed.
I will provide plenty of drinking-water.

WHAT TO BRING:
Your Motorcycle, and your Camping-Gear of choice (Tent, Hammock, Bivy, etc..........)
Being the Colorado-Rockies, the weather in the summertime can sometimes be unpredictable. (It could be clear and dry, or it could be cold and wet)
If you have some sort of waterproof camping-tarp, I would suggest bringing it. (I have a few Tarps that I will bring, in case someone may need one)
The Campground is at 9,800 feet elevation, so make sure you have warm sleeping-gear. The nights will get chilly.
Bring whatever Food and Drink you prefer. (We will be camped 11-miles from Buena Vista. There are major Grocery-Stores in town, so Daily Food and Beverage Runs can be accommodated)
(There are also plenty of Restaurants and Cafe's in town, in case preparing your own Food is not your thing.............I won't judge.......)
An Open Mind, and a Curiosity for some Old-West mining History!

WHAT I WILL PROVIDE:
Drinking Water. I will be bringing 3 or 4 Cases of bottled-water to hand out to anyone of you. I would encourage everyone to stay hydrated. Our altitude and dry-weather combine to dehydrate you very quickly!
There is also Water Spigots available scattered around the Campground. We'll have plenty of water...............
Propane Grills and Camp Stoves, as well as some pots, pans, and cooking-utensils.
Morning Coffee! It's a requirement for me......................I'll have it going in the mornings, with plenty to share if that's your thing.
Cold Food-Storage. I will be bringing a few Large Coolers, as well as a decent sized 12-volt Fridge/Freezer that you folks can use. We can make "Ice Runs" to town as needed.
Easy-Up Canopies. I have 2 that I'm bringing just in case the weather is less than ideal. I believe they are both 10ft x 10ft.
Some Tarps if they are needed (I think I have three)
Camp Chairs. I have 7 or 8 various Camp-chairs and Folding-chairs that I can bring, depending on how many folks confirm they might show up.
12-volt Power for charging any devices you may need to charge at the end of each day.
Vault-Toilet. There is one of the Campground's Vault-Toilets right between Site #'s 10 and 12, so we don't have to walk far. There are no flush-toilets at the Campground.
Hot Water for washing-up. I will have plenty of hot water available for washing up around Camp. I will also provide Hand-soap and Hand-sanitizer for around Camp. (If anyone needs a Shower, there are Public Coin-operated Showers at the Community Rec-Center in town. They use Quarters, and I believe it is $2 for four minutes. It is a straight-shot right down Hwy-306 to get there)
Basic fist-aid supplies. Band-aids, pain-relievers (Ibuprofin) and the like...........I am not medically trained.........It will be up to you to handle yourself if you get hurt. (Obviously we will have ways to get emergency help if the situation requires)
Some Firewood. I'll be bringing some firewood with me. There may be bundles for sale at Camp at the camp-host site, or there will always be bundles for sale at any gas station in town. We can buy extra as needed.
A Window into some Old-West Mining History................I'll provide the Window. It's up to You what you choose to see through it.

RIDER SKILL LEVEL:
The Majority of Sites we will visit are accessible by easy, graded dirt/gravel-roads.
All Rider skill-levels are welcome, but you must be able to ride a gravel road to visit these sites. (don't worry, I'll make sure nobody gets left behind)
There are none that are accessible by pavement only, although we will be riding some pavement each day to get where we need to be.

A WORD OF CAUTION ABOUT ALTITUDE:
We will be Camped at 9,800 feet elevation.
Most of the Riding we will be doing will be around this elevation or possibly slightly higher.
If you are planning to attend, and live at a low elevation, I would encourage you to do some research about Altitude-Sickness. It is a real-thing, and affects everyone differently.
If anyone attends, and is feeling the effects of the elevation, or just wants to take a "Rest-Day" and hang out at Camp for the day, that's totally fine too.

DAILY RIDE ROUTES:
I will be posting these up shortly in this thread, as well as a list of Sites we will visit each day, so stay tuned!

So Come Join Me!
Bring your Motorcycle, your Camping-Gear, and you sense of Adventure!

Post up in this thread if you are interested in attending, so I can keep some sort of approximate head-count.
No need to stay for all 4 nights if your schedule doesn't allow it.
Feel free to stay for 1 night, 2 nights, 3 nights, or all 4 if you can............

Post up any questions that you may have, and I'll answer them here. I'm sure there may be some things I forgot to mention.

More details and Routes to follow...................Stay Tuned!

Would love to make it out for this. But don't count on me for anything, with my granddaughters making all my plans these days.
You really have me reminiscing about riding out there again, just so much to see and do.
Hope you don't mind if I add some pictures of the area.
There is just endless mining places to explore.

South Pass City is in Wyoming, but there is so much mining history scattered around the western States.
Love the Pictures.

You might like this.

Lots of mining means lots of wealth. This leads to a lot of precious ore being transported via stagecoach. Of course, this leads to stagecoach robberies. In 1879, the stage line from Leadville to Buena Vista began having multiple holdups by the same masked bandit. No one could figure out who it was or how they were learning about the gold shipments, as just when gold would be on a particular stage was a closely guarded secret.
Finally, the stagecoach company, the sheriff and his deputies set a trap by leaking information about a fake shipment. When the bandit appeared, the lawmen jumped out of the stage and shot the outlaw dead. What happened next, though, was the real surprise. They pulled the highwayman's mask off to discover that not only was the "man" in fact a woman, but she was also the wife of one of the deputies. In sorrow and mortification, the deputy requested that her body be buried right there, rather than being brought back into town.

This is on the old stage road between Buena Vista and Leadville, Just about at the turn off of 82 to Aspen

I see you have a picture of the west side of the Alpine Tunnel, Some adventurous Tenere riders might be interested in the east side near where the hiking trail starts, is a trail leading up to the northwest end of The Pride of the West Tunnel.

I am definitely interested, most likely bringing a few friends, most likely we will stay in motels, seems to be quite a few motels in the Buena Vista area do you have any recommendations ?
Thursday when I started reading this thread I thought it mentioned something about motels but I don’t see anything about motels today.
About 1,200 miles one way for me.

Yeah, you would have to ride Hancock Pass to get to the East side of Alpine Tunnel, and I'm not taking a group of Tenere Riders up there............

YES. Good question.....................and I totally forgot to mention this!

If Camping is not your thing, there are Motels nearby, as well as a few Camping-resorts with Cabins.
You are still welcome to join us!
I am not familiar with any of the accommodations in town, as I have not stayed at any of them.
I would say to research them, and choose what will best fit your budget.

I will be posting the ride-routes sometime shortly.

You do not have to ride Hancock Pass, The east end of the Alpine Tunnel is south on the road out of St. Elmo.

Hancock Pass is legit and a hard no for me on an ADV. Hell, even on my 690, I wouldn't try going up from the east side. I don't remember the west side of Hancock Pass being especially challenging.

You are correct!
I was thinking of the West side........................and getting there from St Elmo would require going over Hancock Pass.
I honestly was not planning on visiting the East Portal, as there is not much to see on that side. Maybe go as far as where the Town of Hancock used to be..........The CDT from there might be a little more rugged and rocky than I would be willing to lead a group of riders on? I've never been on it that far, so I'm not certain.............

The West side, I'm planning on accessing through Pitkin, as the road is much easier from there.

This pains me deeply to see this, because I have surgery scheduled in May that's likely to keep me off the bike for a while. This is the exact sort of ride that I'd love to return to Colorado to do, and riding with someone who knows their way around the state, especially for something like these ghost towns, sounds like a slice of heaven.

Well, I hope your surgery goes well, and you recover quickly.................If you can make it, that would be great.
I'd say just blow-off the surgery and come anyway, but I'm not going to give that kind of advice....................
