I run the 3 GPSs on more complex rides*.
RicoChet is correct.
The Garmin 590 on the right has a nice, big screen. On this particular ride it was the one I used to follow the route, in "track up" mode, and provides audible instructions, warnings and music if chosen and is wired through my helmet speakers.
The Garmin 660 right up front is in 'north up" mode and gives an overview and is handy to keep a good sense of space.
The Garmin 550 on the left is an older one, used for data logging and looking for things up like fuel, accommodation and searching for waypoints.

I am also "assuming" that the numbers are assigned in order of joining. If so, he's been around the block more than a few times. ::008::
Checkswrecks picked it. My original Iron Butt Association number was 42040 - first official ride January 2010. The sought-after "3 digit" number is awarded to finishers of the Iron Butt Rally (2013 for me).
*This ride was just a bit of fun but still complex. 1600+miles in 36 hours, passing through towns with first letters spelling out "YA BIG CHICKEN" and at the same time drawing this, well.... big chicken:
