Clutch troubles

I tried searching on this, but my Google Fu might just be nonexistent, as I couldn't find any other reports of quite this issue...

I have been having trouble with my '14 ES stalling on clutch squeeze. I will be riding at moderate speed, squeeze the clutch and start downshifting/braking for something - a turn, a light, whatever - and the engine just shuts off. I have watched as it happens, and it seems like the rpm simply drops right through idle to none. I had the same issue with my 07 R6 and it put me into a guardrail when I let the clutch out + gave it gas and it screamed back to life, and that was with about 5 years licensed experience at the time. I know they both have the fly by wire throttle, but that's about it. Never did figure out the R6, and that's after a lot of work thrown at it including TPS, CPS, plugs, wires, reflash, air system work, exhaust work, new throttle and more. I'm really nervous that I'm going to have to give up a bike that I have fallen in love with just because an old demon came back to play.

Has anyone else seen this on their Tenner? Not the stall on takeoff though I did that a few times too, usually when riding off the center stand and not giving it any gas - translation: loose steering nut (or would that be riding nut?). But has anyone else been cruising down the road (40-60 for me) and engaged the clutch, only to have the bike die? If so, did you fix it? How?

My '15 stalled twice in the same day when I pulled in the clutch to downshift just as I was approaching a turn. Went to blip the throttle for the next lower gear and nothing - engine dead. I think I was going slower (25-30 MPH). I just released the clutch carefully and "bump started" the engine back again. It hasn't done it again since that day. I don't think I would call it clutch trouble though. Seems to be some kind of glitch in the fuel cut system when the engine is released from being driven in deceleration.

You're lucky, that's about exactly what I did on my R6 only I didn't realize that it was dead and blammo, hello guard rail.

Additional info, 4 new plugs and 2 were normal, 2 were lean. Dunno which 2 though, they were returned to me without a word because service was closed. Talking with a few more people, it might not be clutch related at all, it just happens to be that I'm squeezing the clutch as well (ie its more likely related to closing the throttle, or if it's water in the tank then maybe braking and the water sloshing up and hitting the fuel pump inlet and getting ingested) but I will be looking at the fuel I guess, I'm kinda low on this tank so maybe what I'll do is ride to work (15 mins each way) the rest of the week and pull the tank on Saturday. More to come, I guess.

Sounds like a throttle body sync is in order.

My new '15 did that from the day I picked it up. I did the airscrew adjustment (http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=1973.0;topicseen) and it has been fine since.

The bikes and all new vehicles are delivered running very lean. When the throttle goes closed the injectors close and it doesn't take too much be be an over-reaction in that there just is hardly any fuel being delivered. Do the CO and TBS and see if that fixes it. My guess is that you'll also find the fueling is much nicer and there is a little less vibration. Instructions for both procedures are in the Tech board.

I agree with the above. On this bike there is no idle adjustment, so if the TB sync is off or the CO is way lean, the idle can be lower than it should be.

This is something a good tech should be able to sort quickly with basic diagnostic skills, and not something you should be charged for, if it's under warranty, IMHO.
