Clutch slave cylinder fail?

OK inmates.. my S10 appears to be leaking oil at the clutch master cylinder. The area under the cylinder gets 'wet" after a long days run. A bit of a degrease and it is gone.

Anybody had this before?

All the bolts/connections are tight.

I have just fitted the Yamaha supplied (and loaded with oil) oil foamed filter and i am starting to wonder if the excess filter oil is finding its way onto the hydraulic line and slowly dripping down to the engine casing.

Any comments or experiences?

Bike has done approx 6000K

Take a real close look at the oil. Smell it. Does it smell like engine oil or gas in any way? Is it tacky or slippery? What is the color? Could be oil drain from the filter but haven't had my bike long enough to know where that drain would be if it even exists. If it's really clear and clean I'd think clutch fluid.

Pop the top off the clutch reservior to see if you have lost fluid. Not much volume in there to begin with so if you are seeping fluid at the slave, you may see a loss of fluid here. Good luck.

Yes.. i shouldn't have had that extra glass of wine. It is the slave cylinder.

Cannot see a leak.. but after a long ride on dirt road there is a "wet patch" in the dust on the engine cover under the slave cylinder.

Dealer tells me there is no known problem here.. so will watch and wait and let them check it next service.

Cheers

I know someone will correct me, but isn't the slave enclosed in an 'oiled space'? So if you're seeing an external leak it would be oil rather than hydraulic fluid? Some early engines had a guide pin that was too long and kept one of the side covers from thoroughly seating.
