Clearing the flooded engine

I was told of the propensity of the Super T (at least the pre-14 ones) to flood. I was further told that pulling the fuse for the fuel pump and turning it over a few times clears it quickly. Has anyone done this?

Look under 'hard start' in the search function, starting and switching off while still cold seems to be the main culprit, although never happened to me.......................
