Although I started riding with sport bikes, I've been bitten by the adventure bike bug since the days of the Ducati Elefant and BMW 1100GS. I didn't get the chance to realize that dream until 2004, when I bought my current bike, a KTM Adventure 950. It's a great bike with plenty of rally DNA everywhere.
Being a fan of the Elefant, I was really chuffed about the Ducati Multistrada 1200. I waited months for the chance to rent one for a day. However, after having a negative experience on the road and with my local dealer, I slapped myself and took another look at the Super Tenere. A month later I finally had the chance to demo one, and it was fantastic. True, it doesn't have the Italian sexiness or mad speed of the Bologna bikes, but by God, the more I got to know it the more I realized this is one bike with a proper character all its own. Great rumbling engine note even stock, steering that takes a set to a corner and runs it on rails, and big fat torque band to throttle-surf the canyons all day long. It's rather like the trope epiphany of realizing the "girl next door" is a stunner in her own right - plus, not a sociopath. 8)
So at the risk of being obvious, tonight is my Christmas Eve. As a reward to myself for finally getting through law school and the bar exam in one piece, a bit before dawn tomorrow morning I'm off to the train station to make the trip to meet my new bike.
There's a blue S10 out there just waiting. ::022:: ::001::
