Weird but, Winchester yamaha emailed me this morning and had a 13 Grey (still the fastest color) that I wanted for $12699 plus a 15% off anything I buy for 45 days, so I'm thinking of ordering the hard cases or is there a better set?

Is that an OTD price, or are they a "setup charge" type of place? I've been there a few times, but don't know much about their selling practices.

Wherever you buy it, do make plans to join us in May out at Romney. There's no date set yet, but here's the link from the 2013 event. http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=6193.0

The additional discount, in my experience, for additional items is fairly standard. It can vary, but 15% seems decent. I used that to get myself an extra helmet one time.

I don't have the stock bags, but some people do and some of them like them and some don't. The one advantage is that they will use the same key. I would check out the bags and see if you like them. If you are good with them, then you are set. If you have doubts, then get something different.

Luggage, tires, and oil are threads that are never ending. Everybody has their own opinion.

Do a few searches on the forum and you will find a number of threads about who likes what and lots of photos. A few key word suggestions:
Jesse, Givi, MuffinTop, SWMotech, Happy Trail, Caribou, Holan, panniers, side boxes, luggage

Sweeeet.

It's definitely my favorite color.

Ok, you can spend weeks reading everything you think you need to know and worry about.
Let me save you the time:

Check your spokes.

Ride it.

At 600 mile service, sync your Throttle Bodies.

Check your spokes.

Get it filthy.

Check your spokes.

Once you get no loose spokes, you are basically done worrying.

Now check your headlight harness at the bulb connectors.
Make sure the black plastic housing around the female blade connectors does not interfere with the connectors. If it does, file the black plastic out of the way.
Then squish the females down a bit so they fit nice and tight on the bulbs. Add a little grease.

Then ride.

You have just addressed the only 2 issues that amount to actual Tenere problems.

Only other issue is the occasional "hard start".
Don't ever start the bike unless you are going to let it run long enough to reach 140F.
And try not to let your finger release the start button before the bike starts.
And if it ever does fail to start, hold the throttle WOT until it does.

I just saved you HOURS AND HOURS of research! :)

So now you can just ride.

Oh, one last thing.
Ignore the noise this motor makes. It's a box of rocks to some folks. (Sounds fine to me)

Just ride. It takes forever to break in. Maybe 6000 miles. Gets smoother and slicker and smaller and lighter.

Did I say get it dirty yet?
Set your traction control to 2 if you have smooth tires, or OFF if you have Dirt tires.
And don't worry about ABS off road. It works. Better than your brain says it can.

Hmmmm. What else?..........nope, thats it!

Again, wait till she breaks in a bit, you're really gonna love it!

Then get the reflash and fall in love all over again.

Truly an incredible machine - congrats!

Another noobie from Northern VA - Haymarket area. I just picked up a nice gunmetal matte grey 2013 Super Tenere that I love! Soooo glad they took my old R1150GS POS off my hands. That thing was not what I expected.... I have owned many great Yamahas and I expect this one to be at the top of the list real soon - if the first 300 miles in 24 hrs is any indication. Glad to be back on a Yamaha!
