It shouldn't have the reflection problems like the oem guard.

It looks nice.. I am thinking of using the 3M protective film. It does a good job for road bikes, but maybe not so good
for single track.

I mentioned in another thread that after talking to the Yamaha folks at the Indy show, they will not be offering the OEM headlight protector in the USA. It is pictrured in some of their promotional material, but they will not be bringing them in due to DOT problems.

I've heard that it reflects light in your eyes if your position is a certain way. Maybe that's one of the issues? This other option looks better anyway.

Shipping was updated to $28 to TX... hmmmm... I think I'll wait for Cee Bailey's to come out with a version.

Maybe. But I took a rock hit on my ST1100 and the cost to replace the unit was more than $300.00! I bought a head light guard as soon as I got my ST1300 and will do the same for the Super Tenere. Even if it isn't a high-priced part I would rather not be left stranded if a rock managed to take it out.

YMMV,

It's such a small footprint.. wouldn't take much to outline it on a piece of paper and line it out on some plexiglass then cut and heat to shape...

Or buy the 3M film that is almost 3/32" thick. I did that on the ST1100 after I found a used headlight. I did my FZ1 and the better half's PC800. I may look at that option as you do not have to remove it to clean behind it. But, I know of at least one person who burned a spot in theirs after running the high beams for an extended time. Moby feel free to correct me if I got that wrong.

I think that's probably okay if you are just touring.. but if you plan on doing any off road stuff I feel - just my opinion for what that's worth - that going through woods and hitting branches or riding behind someone that might throw up a rock it's better to have a thick Plexiglas along with some space between the headlight to absorb more of an impact..

Even for touring, I've seen enough bolts in the road that I don't think the film will help with...

Of course, I've put 50k miles on my ST1300 in the past 3 years and have only very small dings in the headlight you can barely tell so maybe it's just a crap shoot to begin with.

If I figure out how to make something with plexiglas I'll post what I did with some how-to's.. Gotta have the bike first of course.. LOL

You are correct.

They removed it from the X-Country Terrain dealer offered package. Was $99.95

Touratech offers one but big bucks.

those aux lights are sweet!!!!! however, my sphincter tightened at the price
Yeah, and it is only for the ONE light on the right, the one on the left is an auxiliary fog light. I don't like the placement on the outside either. If I put extra lighting up front, it will be below the headlight.
