I am looking to buy a caribou top plate and am wondering who is running this plate and do you feel it is strong enough to hold a 35l case? It looks like it just sits on top of the OE rack which makes me nervous. Any feedback is appreciated!

I have been running a Caribou top plate for over a year.
I didn't end up mounting it up as the instructions stated but made lots of mods trying to get it moved back enough for Michelle to sit on her seat.
It is a little on the flimsy side but it can be mounted with enough support to make it hold up.
I have had the Caribou case on it a lot,, the Moto Fizz medium on it when we travel and now it has the Yamaha rear case mounted on it.

Thanks for the reply with pictures. Do you have an up close picture of it empty. If not, no big deal.

I just installed the Caribou top rack as per instructions.

I don't know how I'd feel about over loading it. I think it will be fine for the recommended weight...which I don't recall at the moment. I did feel safe enough to put my daughter on the back and have her use it as a back of the seat indicator/don't slide off stop.

Had the Caribou top plate, didn't like that it sat on top of the OEM plastic rack and had 2 flimsy rear supports. Got the AltRider rear rack and was planning on drilling some holes in it to mount the Caribou hardware directly to it. Turns out the AltRider rack already has pre drilled holes that line up perfectly with the holes in the Caribou plate. So... Unbolt the mounts from the Caribou plate, bolt to AltRider, adjust the lock on the case and its on there solid now.
