Can I swap tank, fairing, accessories from Gen 1 to Gen 2 bikes?

I have a 2013 that has an engine issue that I'm debating whether it makes sense to fix, or sell and upgrade into a Gen 2 with the inherent updates. Contingent on that is being able to outfit it with the gear I have on it and trust for the conditions I ride in (cannot afford to re-outfit another bike with those accessories even if I sell any accessories on the bike I purchase).

So I was looking at the 2014 - 2016 model years and wanted to know if I purchase one of those can I swap out original pieces as well as my accessories which would mean bolt patterns / sizes directly align between Gen 1 and Gen 2s. I want to take the matte gray fairing pieces / tank, as well as windshield, pannier supports, etc from the 2013 and swap. Is that possible?

I think all those parts are interchangeable. There would likely be some electrical/wiring differences given the addition of CC, LED blinkers and an all digital dash cluster. Some skid plates that fit 1st gen bikes may not fit the 2nd gen models due to the larger catalyst on the gen 2s. Also, windscreens are completely different.

Pretty sure panels, hardware, and such would cross over fine. Mr. Bertrand is right about the electronics. I think if you swap the tank, you'd have to remove the Gen 1 guts, and install the Gen 2 stuff due to fuel gauge differences. Theoretically, this should be easy. :D

Just like most Star Trek episodes :p

. . . . and the tank sounds a bit challenging if for some reason the electronics connecting to the tank aren't the same... Ergh
I haven't looked, but I would think that the tank connections would be the same. But the electronics, fuel gauge, end would be different. Somebody on here has to know for sure though.

According to the parts fiche, fuel pumps between '12 & '16 are same. 23P-13907-00-00. Fiche shows '17 and up part number changed to -01 and higher price. Windshield from '13 will move to GEN II if the height adjuster is removed.

Great, thanks all! It sounds like as long as I stick with a 2014 to 2016 I should have pretty good confidence in swapping all the parts I'm concerned with. That gives me some good options.

My 2014 has 2012 blue body work, switched by the previous owner who did not like the mat grey as much but wanted the gen 2 ES. I have installed both a SW Motech and a much better RideOnAdv plate from Gen 1 bikes, which required some modification due to the Gen2 cat. At last glance, my cat has taken a few hits. Many folks change the exhaust to get rid of it for clearance issues.
