I am heading down from Yukon late April- AMHS to Bellingham then ride coast and wonder if any of you have tips on sourcing info on campgrounds in Washington, Oregon and California. Plan to hit Supercross final May 2nd, then some inland travel in Arizona and New Mexico, if I can line up some riding partners/witnesses would love to ride the Baja in Mexico and the beeline back home in time for a quick ride up Prudoe or Inuvik before June 15th when kids are out of school and summer holidays start.

Anyway- any advise on camping links/forum/etc would be appreciated.
Thanks

The California Coast is very beautifuland a very good ride but... there are many roads and areas off of the coast that are very good riding.

Sounds like an amazing and high mileage trip

Just across the border from Canada into Washington. Bellingham KOA which is really in Lynden not far from the Sumas border crossing . Most amazingly beautiful place. great folks. Will not regret camping there. Not wild lands but not urban either. http://koa.com/campgrounds/lynden/

Northern California, just up north of Eureka is Trinidad. Redwoods, coastal port, beach, good food and this really cool campground called Emerald Forest. Camp sites, cabins and a small store. Beautiful and serene little place. http://cabinsintheredwoods.com/

If you are not on Pashnit.com get there. That is the definitive site for all the best roads to ride in California. You could spend the next 20 years checking out all the roads Tim has on his site.

If you have time ride the Lost Coast Road out of Ferndale that connects back to HY101. Be sure and take the Leggett turnoff from101 to Hwy 1. 26 miles, 375+ turns, pure heaven. Ridden it many times. One day we rode from Leggett to the coast, all looked at each other grinning ear to ear and headed back to Leggett, turned around at Leggett and rode it back again to the coast . 78 miles of beyond description riding

In California I highly recommend that you make campground reservations ahead of time. This site will let you find campgrounds and also make reservations:

http://www.reserveamerica.com/

For some popular campgrounds, especially anywhere near a beach, you have to make reservations a year ahead of time (to the day, or all sites will be gone). Ridiculous but true.

Good luck!

thanks guys lots of good feedback and sites to check out, I am not on an agenda and have a pretty loose schedule so making reservations might not be on my side. I will keep thinking/mapping/planning and perhaps book a few secure spots.

Thanks again guys

toompine mentioned Trinidad CA and Patrick's Point Drive. A few years a go three of us stopped in Trinidad for the night and stayed at Trinidad Inn. We got a small home... 2 bedrooms 3 beds, living room, kitchen, good parking, for less than $150. We ate at the local Casino. Excellent stop.

This reminds me that 101 is 101 and not always as scenic as the side roads...
... Patrick's Point Drive
... Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway
... Bald Hills Road
... Scenic Drive
... US Forest Service Road 1 http://goo.gl/maps/7Yk7R (all narrow asphalt, no paint, little traffic)
... Parts of 299
... All of 36
... 255 / Samoa Blvd / New Navy Base Road
... 255 bridges
... Old Arcata Road / Myrtle Avenue
... Tompkins Hill Road
... Eel River Drive (Loleta)
... must do http://goo.gl/maps/9vadJ
... or must do http://goo.gl/maps/TtlRM
... Branscomb Road
... if you have the time http://goo.gl/maps/ewPEU
... Alice's Restaurant and surrounding roads

There are MANY roads to ride. Just ask and you will get many Favorite Rides.
